I have a theory. Pump got Corrupted specifically because of the costume he was wearing. See, being dead he normally couldn't get Corrupted, but since he's closely associated with the costume, and the Corruption affects clothes, he treats the costume as a solid object, and was Corrupted by being in physical contact with something his spirit is bonded with getting Corrupted.
