I was confused by Hypno's gradual body horror transformation since I knew the original "Hypno's Lullaby" creepypasta and didn't recall it mentioning any such transformation or reveal, but then I saw a video explaining it's the result of Hypno overstraining his psychic powers so hard from trying to affect GF that it's causing him to lose control of his own body as it warps, mutates, and tears itself apart from the strain. And then I realized it was just an Akira reference all along.

I came up with a theory about the lore of this game from Nurse Joy's pokedex entry: So Hypno's trainer Alexia jumped off a bridge, right? After that, Hypno was stuck there, almost paralyzed with shock, or grief, for years, and learned to hate the humans who mocked his trainer's demise. Eventually he grew up and couldn't bear to be around that bridge so he left, and eventually came across the pokemon center visible in the background of Safety Lullaby and Left Unchecked. Inside, he met the Nurse Joy, who took care of him for a while, but Hypno's hatred of humans borne of the long-ago mocking drove him to leave, and Nurse Joy believed that she failed him, which drove her to commit unalive, which, for those who didnt notice, is where she is, in the background of Purin. Hypno, on the other hand, stayed around the Center out of habit, or affection to the Nurse who took him in, but claimed the forest as his domain.
