One really neat thing, the track that starts at 1:51 is actually a remix of the track that plays in Pico's School as you talk to a boss, right before you fight them. Its been modified since the original release however, since it was taken from Hive's Ultrasonic Sound music track, so now the game uses a track that sounds similar, but is different enough, but hearing this instantly sparked my memories of the original, since it sounds so similar to it.

It also shouldn't take three years though. Before the kickstarter, the dev team was small, yet updates came out every couple of months. After the devs were given two million dollars and substantially expanded their team, they kept quiet for three years regarding progress and didn't update the game *at all,* and in three years.... this is all theyve done. Some erect songs, one new week, and some UI changes. Holy shit. Yeah if the devs keep up with this pace, releasing one week every three years, we'll have this game by... hm, 40 weeks times 3 years for each one week to release, minus the 8 weeks currently in the game... ah, we'll have this game in 99 years (33 x 3 = 99)! Can't wait to play this game on my death bed in 3023!

Honestly, it's a bit silly to expect that the team is going to show off EVERYTHING and allow people to play a lot of levels from this game that will COST ACTUAL MONEY before it's released... No, they aren't going to just release all the weeks they've been working on or everything they have done. Of course not. Then there would be no point in buying it. It's not a little project anymore where they frequently put things out for the public to play; it's bigger, and there are more moving parts than any fan can see right now. Give it time. The majority of games aren't announced at all until they're already in production, and then they MAYBE release a short demo or something a few weeks before release. The fact you can play through this already is something the devs did NOT have to do, but they did it anyways for the fans.

they finally added a little bit more lore :D (you would normally have to go to fandom and find the lore there as there are no cut scenes and stuff) basically, pico, nene, and darnell are mercenaries who were hired by daddy dearest. daddy dearest asked them to kill bf, but didn't tell them who they were gonna kill, and only told them about his whereabouts. pico took on this job himself, and but they were all given a large amount of money for this kill (as bf embarrassed him during week 1 by absolutely destroying him in the rap battle). when pico realized the person he had to kill was bf (which is pico's ex boyfriend, confirmed in pico's school), he decided to let him go, as they broke up due to pico's bipolarity, so in a way, pico still misses him. they do a rap battle just for old time's sake, and pico walked off. darnell, nene, and daddy dearest all got mad at pico for letting him go, but then one more time, daddy dearest asked them to confirm bf's death, as bf was sent into a battlefield along with tankman. pico went to check, and when he realized bf was alive, but may get killed by tankman, he decided to help once again (btw tankman and bf do rap battle because tankman is bored of fighting and will kill bf if he loses the rap battle). this is why darnell and nene are mad at pico because he betrayed them and daddy dearest to save bf. thank you so much for reading my yap! i hope you enjoy the rest of your day. thank you so much!

As a solo game developer, I can say that the people complaining about this demo being underwhelming need to both tamper their expectations, and consider how much time and money it really takes to make something like this. It’s clear that they are working so, so freaking hard on this game. The plan was never to update the free version of this game until they meet their goals; this is a preview. It’s an ADDITION to the free version of this game. This is NOT all they have gotten done in the past 3 years. Tamper your expectations, and you’ll find that this week (which is only a small fraction of the game they plan to sell) is freaking incredible by most indie games’ standards. Don’t forget that even the 2 million dollars they got from the kickstarter is a pretty low budget as far as videogames go. You can’t expect truly good games to be made in T-minus 10 seconds. Please don’t get angry at the team for how seemingly slowly the game is being made. If they could make things go faster, they would. Give them the incubation and time they need to make the masterpiece they want to.

I imagine this isn't all they've done, but they also haven't communicated this to the public, nor to their kickstarter backers. I'm currently a backer and I, along with the rest of us, have no idea what's going on. If this isn't all they've done, they need to communicate that and let people know what else they've done, because this is all people have seen of the game in three years. What are people supposed to think if the devs don't communicate the progress that they've done? Did you know they didn't even bother to update kickstarter backers about this update? They didn't do a kickstarter update for this nor did they talk about this update in the blog they made to specifically update backers regarding the game. Isn't that insane? Backers have been asking for years for progress updates regarding the game so that they know the developers didn't just run with the money, and when there finally is a substantial update, the developers don't fucking tell their backers about it? What even is this. The communication to backers and the general public the past three years has been abysmal. The only reason I even found out about this update is when I checked the kickstarter randomly and saw other backers - not the team - talking about it. It's true that indie game development takes a long time. I don't personally think people would mind waiting if the devs updated people frequently as they should with a project of this scope. I think most people would be more sympathetic if they knew progress was actually happening behind the scenes and would be patient. But they don't know that progress is happening - nobody does. Because the devs don't tell people anything, not even the backers who gave them 2 million dollars. And even if 2 million dollars is low for a project of this scope, the devs still have an obligation to communicate with their backers. But they don't. Anyways, I think the prime issue at hand is not that game development takes a long time, it's that the devs haven't bothered to communicate with people about progress made... so people don't think anything is happening. And this update is the only progress they know has occurred in three years.

There is no good excuse why they couldn’t break this update up into smaller chunks and release it over the course of the gap. They could have released a less demanding week that didn’t require an engine change, they could have dropped the erect difficulty update on its own, they could have done literally anything but let the game sit for THREE YEARS without a drop of vanilla content. And don’t even get me started on silksong. I have never seen a company that’s worse at managing themselves.

Okay, that fourth round fistfight is an inspired addition, I hope we get more "minigame" levels like this. Also YAY FRIENDS!!! Reminder that it took three years to get this far because what started as a freebee rhythm game made by 4 people exploded into a massively overfunded KS where they had to produce dozens and dozens of new songs, animations, and possibly? characters. I always knew it was going to take a while but it's clearly worth the wait! For the record I've gotten a lot of the physical rewards already like the record/cassette/CD. I'm probably a bit older than your average FnF fan so I wonder how many parents and other adult family/friends are out there watching and having a weird moment of seeing these Newgrounds characters come back after almost 20 years and knowing where they come from (because the common attitude around Pico's original game was a LOT different in the early-mid aughts). I hope it's creating some bonding moments!
