Has anyone noticed how Eric seems to think he's 18-20 years old? He always talks about how young he is. He calls himself a "youngster" here. Eric is a middle-aged man. Eric suffers from narcissistic delusions about himself and one of those is that he's a young prodigy who's far ahead of what is normal for his age and older artists are just jealous of him like Salieri was of Mozart in the film Amadeus. He thinks EVS is his Salieri, jealous of his success and prodigious creative talent at such a remarkably young age for comics...his mid-thirties.

Holy **** Eric is so Media illiterate! All of those examples he used do show the main character’s CHARACTER ORIGIN, which is what the commenter is talking about! (And his fan that super chatted is just as bad). Dragonball tells you pretty Early on that Goku was found and raised by his Grandpa Gohan who trained him in martial arts. Then in Dragonball Z the origin is expanded when we find out in the first few chapters was the reason he was sent to earth was to concur it, but because he bumped his head as a child it altered his way of thinking and made him less ruthless, but he still maintained his fighting spirit and enjoyment of fighting. One Piece we know again Early on that Luffy can stretch because of the devil fruit. We also learn he wants to become king of the pirates pretty early on. That’s character origin. We don’t need to know all the details of how the origin happened or why. That can unfold gradually. And the whole “we still don’t know what the One Piece is” part well, we know it’s the treasure hidden by the former pirate king, we don’t need to know what it is exactly, but that’s Mcguffin not a CHARACTER. And yes, we learn more about the characters and their origins become more and more clear as the stories go along, (like Wolverine) but there is still a jumping off point -aka an origin that gets you interested in the characters we’ll be following and makes them instantly identifiable. Compared that to Isom: WE DONT KNOW AZZ FROM APPLEBUTTER ABOUT ISOM! We don’t even know what his powers actually are or why he chose to be a hero in the first place. 180+ pages and we don’t know sh*t about that guy. Also what he’s doing isn’t world building. Establishing characters is apart of world building. The people living in the world (your characters) make the world. Smh 🤦🏿♂️ this dude is just lost…
@RobertJRomano2 ай бұрын
Wolverine’s origin is largely established in Giant Sized X-Men and Hulk #181. We know in Hulk that Wolverine’s claws are adamantium. Xavier identifies Logan as a mutant, and Claremont establishes the meeting at a secret government installation, with a “special governmental agency” with “its very special agent” who is “cipher-coded Weapon X”. When Xavier recruits Wolverine, the general at the base complains “Not so fast, fella! The government invested a great deal of time and money turning you into what you are now! You try walking out on us - and I’ll have you locked up!” So immediately the reader can deduce that although Wolverine is a mutant, that he has been furthered enhanced by the government. A few issues later we learn the claws are a part of him in #98. This offers a valuable hint that the claws were “added” by the government. The fuller details we commonly accept today of the Weapon X program are then further established by Barry Windsor-Smith in 1988. And then in X-Men#25 and Wolverine #75 we learn that his claws were originally bone before the adamantium. So spice is added later but the essential details, adamantium, Weapon X, the government “turned him into what he is” was all there from the get go.
@rogerrowsdower25072 ай бұрын
It's really good stuff. With Logan they slowly give you the origin through backstory over time which is a good strategy, always leave the audience wanting more as they say so they buy more. With Spidey the origin story is the start of the story and happens in real time rather then backstory through infodump dialogue, flashbacks, implications, etc. They can both work just fine if you have really good characters with really good stories. Eric doesn't understand any of this and doesn't know what he's doing.
@PhotriusPyrelus2 ай бұрын
The most important thing about Wolverine Specifically, is that he played the role of Mysterious Stranger for a while. Mysterious Strangers are *super* cool. BUT, you can't have your WHOLE CAST being Mysterious Strangers. Wolverine was in X-Men which was a series with a pretty big cast of characters. Having one guy with a mysterious background you reveal over time is great! Taking that approach with everyone on the team? We wouldn't even know the name "Wolverine" or "X-men" today.
@RobertJRomano2 ай бұрын
More details come later like any character but the Weapon X origin is pretty much established in the first few issues.

He thinks saying the origin of a character is info-dumping. That's not info-dumping. 🤷♀️ I've noticed Eric is one of those people who sometimes parrots correct information, but then has absolutely no idea how to actually apply what he says. To the people going after Kyle Rittenhouse for saying he wanted to write Ron Paul in cause Trump isn't or hasn't been great on the 2nd Amendment, I worry you might end up coming off like Joe Biden supporters did in 2020 when they were running around foaming at the mouth screaming at anyone they thought they could berate or shame or cajole into falling in line and supporting Joe regardless of their reservations against him. I lost friendships cause I didn't wanna vote for either candidate that year and I don't like watching people trying to coerce someone into voting for the candidate they personally like and just shut up and fall in line doesn't seem very democratic or good for society. I still don't support either candidate this year. I don't know what Trump is planning to do this upcoming term and what bad policies he's planning to undo. Undoing bad policies matters almost as much as implementing new good ones and I don't hear either candidate talking about repealing any bad legislation that infringes on our 2nd Amendment rights-or anything else for that matter. Trump's campaign this time around reminds me too much of Biden's campaign in 2020-"shut up and vote for me cause the other guy/side is worse. Don't worry about what I'm going to improve and what terrible policies I'm going to get rid of-just vote for me." I can't go along with that. I need policies I can point to as reasons I should support someone's campaign for office. What new good stuff can I look forward to and what bad old stuff can I look forward to being undone? I mainly care about drugs, money, and guns-what drugs are getting legalized so they can be safely manufactured and tested for dosage info and we know they aren't cut with things like fent? How is my money going to increase in value or quantity? What gun laws are getting repealed cause they infringe on our 2nd Amendment rights?

You’re complaining about a 38-minute video… in a video that’s over three and a half hours long… and that’s fairly short for you. Irony?
@timothyfitzgerald31682 ай бұрын
The 38 minute video is supposed to be a pointed argument about a specific topic. If you want the target of your video to watch it, you should get to the point a little faster. If you pop them in the nose a bit at the beginning, early enough for them not to be bored, you get them engaged for the full time. Trashcast is a potpourri of various trash topics. He skips from laughing at the latest trashfire on X, to detracting the newest Rippatardation, hawkin wares, superchats, politics etc. They arent comparable. A video vs a show. And an, admittedly subjective, point is that Ethan is more entertaining. Id rather watch a 3 hour stream of him clowning around, than 38 minutes of a slowly stated rebuttal to Ethan. If the guy was more entertaining, the audience may have been more into it and it'd be great content.
@comichaul2 ай бұрын
@@timothyfitzgerald3168 your entire argument depends on whether or not other people find Ethan entertaining for several hours. And in fairness, there have been MANY times where Ethan titled a video about a specific subject, and took (sometimes) hours to get to that subject. Ethan's show has a real time audience, and many of us were complaining it was boring. Joe's was a pre-recorded video, mostly talking to Ethan. I think his accent makes him somewhat hard to understand at times at 2x. And one of the key points Ethan has made about criticism: is to say "okay" and move on sometimes. You don't always have to reply to every critic. So he is following his own advice.
