FRIDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK OF ADVENT
Gospel
(Mt 11:16-19)
Jesus said to the crowds:
"To what shall I compare this generation?
It is like children who sit in marketplaces and call to one another,
'We played the flute for you, but you did not dance,
we sang a dirge but you did not mourn.'
For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they said,
'He is possessed by a demon.'
The Son of Man came eating and drinking and they said,
'Look, he is a glutton and a drunkard,
a friend of tax collectors and sinners.'
But wisdom is vindicated by her works."
The Gospel of the Lord: Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.
The Word of God for Everyone
Dear People of God,
Today's Word of God teaches all humanity: always listen to the Word of God and put it into practice. The Word of God always walks in light, in truth and in reality.
Look at the example of Jesus Christ. He came to the world as a human to be with and accompany humanity; but when God came to the world, humanity did not recognize Him as the Savior, coming to free humanity from the captivity of Satan.
That is why today's Word of God presents a story of children talking to each other: 'We played the flute for you, but you did not dance,
we sang a dirge but you did not mourn.' Through this, God wants to tell all mankind: Learn how to live in harmony, love, and unity with one another in every word, action, and deed so that Satan cannot infiltrate, interfere, destroy, and cause division and discord.
Likewise, the image of Saint John the Baptist came to bring the Word of God to mankind; calling people to repent, change their ways, return to God, abandon the path of sin and live and reconcile with their brothers and sisters, reconcile with God. The very person of Saint John the Baptist demonstrated His prophetic life: righteous, upright, fair, and charitable; but mankind did not recognize it, and thus condemned Saint John the Baptist and killed the prophet.
Besides, God took the image of His own Son to become a human being, to bring peace and happiness to mankind. However, mankind thought that He was a person like everyone else, a drunkard, a sinner. But before God, He knows the hearts and thoughts of mankind; that is why He said: "Wisdom is vindicated by her works." Through the loving actions of the Son of God who came to earth as a human, we will see how God's love is expressed to all mankind.
God wants all mankind to:
Run to God's love and live in love, forgiveness, sympathy, charity, and harmony with one another; do not be jealous, do not blame, do not condemn one another anymore.
Look up to the example of Jesus Christ, the Son of God who came to earth as a human being, sacrificed Himself and died to save each person and all humanity.
Look up to the cross of love of Jesus Christ, from which you can draw the grace of peace and happiness in this life.
God does not want mankind to suffer; therefore God wants mankind to live and do what God teaches, which is to live justly, charitably, lovingly and forgivingly.
Thanks be to God. Amen
