Fun fact. That WAS a real snake they really killed. It was actually a pet of a crew member who wasn't told they were actually going to kill the snake and not switch it out. He sued.

The ending of the first movie has always been a dream. The logic in part 2 is that Jason survived his apparent drowning and lived in the woods the whole time. You should do more of them.

I don’t think it was a dream. Jason grabbed her, pulled her into the water, and got spooked by the police presence on shore. He was still a kid and had developmental issues, I believe his mom mentioned. Once he became a young adult, he sought out Alice to finish the job.

When Mrs Voorhess said "Kill her mommy", they changed that to "Ki Ki Ma Ma" sound in all of the movies

This will forever be the definitive Friday the 13th film. You had a director and writer out to make a cheap thrill Drive-in movie, admittedly patterned after the formula established by Halloween 2 years earlier. After realizing the monster success of that movie, they set out on their own version. Old school Hollywood legend from the studio system, Betsy Palmer only agreed to do the film out of necessity for the cash in order to fix up her Rolls Royce. After turning down the part deeming it a piece of sh*t (her own words), she realized she could do something with the part by playing it as insane woman who thinks she's sane, in a rage of vengeance for her dead and special needs son, Jason. Palmer decided that if she played it more as a mom on a mission, rather than obviously bat sh*t crazy up front, it would disarm the audience, confuse them into empathy. Her character prep work is what lifted her perfomance to another level. Guess on a Hollywood star, always a Hollywood star. She had a great tutor....(she co-starred back in the 1960's in a film with the star of all movie stars and legend, Joan Crawford). The movie went on to be an immediate hit. The plan was never to continue with Jason as we know it. Jason was only a ghost in this film. The original plan to carry forward any future sequels were to still carry the Friday the 13th title, but to have each movie be totally different and unlucky circumstances. An anthology of films, unrelated to each other. Of course, the studio made millions from this film, the "slasher" genre was still young and coming into it's own, they got cold feet and went the continued Jason path. Also, the iconic hockey mask doesn't make it's way as his look until Part 3.

Fun facts - Bill was played by Bing Crosby's grandson, Harry Crosby III. When they first gave the script to Betsy Palmer (Pamela Voorhees), her first outburst was "what a piece of s**t!" ... she only accepted the role because they offer her $10,000 for three days of filming and her old car had died and that was the price of a brand new one she wanted. This was actually Kevin's 4th movie. His debut came in 1978's "Animal House" as Chip Diller. He was then on the soap opera "Search For Tomorrow" in 1979 as Todd ... he was then on "Guiding Light" when this came out, where he played TJ.

Yes, please keep spilling all that Vortea! Mrs. Vorhees is the OG slay queen. I love the original and like the series as a whole. My boyfriend and I have seen it in theaters and at drive ins. Excellent to see other people enjoying it as much as we do. As for most anticipated movie in the series…mmm Part 4 The (not so) Final Chapter is a great slasher with some hunks in it. Part 7 The New Blood has some cuties as well.

I saw Parts 1 & 2 as a grindhouse double -feature in a very spooky, rundown theatre (it was condemned/closed a month later) on the night of Part 2's theatrical release, waaaaaaay back on the night of April 30th, 1981, at the ripe old age of 13 - and it was my introduction to not just the world of modern horror, but also whose dawn of his dead coincided with the dawn of the slasher genre (we just didn't know that yet)... but i digress... When we first watched this movie, we were excited to see Kevin Bacon because he had been on a soap opera we watched. This movie has its fair share of people doing bad imitations of Golden Age movie stars. "Lizzie, you'll always be plain" is in imitation of Katharine Hepburn in _The Rainmaker._

One way you can tell the killer isn't Jason in this movie, is the way some of the victims interact with the killer. The killer is an unassuming person, that people let their guards down around. The first two victims probably thought the killer was only there to reprimand them for sneaking off, so they try to explain themselves, and don't realize they're in danger until the guy is stabbed. Annie assumes that the killer is just some kind stranger giving her a ride, and engages in conversation with that person, not realizing the danger until they zoom past the turn for Camp Crystal Lake. Steve know the killer because they're both citizens of the town by Crystal Lake, and the killer used to work for his family. Nobody is letting their guard down around a hulking Jason Voorhees like that.

Love watching new Generations of kids watching the classics expecting the main Killer to be around but not really! 😅 I wish we would get a New Reboot with of course Mommy being the first killer but then Part II have Jason fight Alice but then in Part III have Mrs Voorhees talking to Jason even though she’s dead! But like she never left him, kind of freaky way! It would give more reasons to keep Killing people that comes around Crystal Lake!
