This scene is a reminder of what Jason ultimately was before he became the complete monster we know him as: a victim. When he saw the girl, he saw himself as a little boy, and the rapists as the bullies. He basically became the savior he didn't have as a kid, and it makes me wonder what if one of the camp counselors had done the same and shielded him from the abuse he suffered, with zero knowledge of what horrors they would be sparing the world in doing so? What if he became a hero of the abused instead of a murderer of the innocent? I'm sure there's already probably a comic or something that explores that possibility, but damn if it ain't intriguing.

I've always questioned if Jason really is "evil" to his utter core, like a lot of other slasher villains. Or if it's more the fact that he is so fixated on revenge and fueled with hate over what happened to him (and his mother) that the only thing he can do is give in to the murderous rage inside him, since it's really the only thing he has left. I'm certain he would've killed the girl too, had she stayed there instead of running away. But he didn't have to leave her alone and go after the other dude first, giving her the chance to run. You could interpret the simple act of choosing not to gank her outright as some minuscule amount of Jason's humanity surfacing for all of 2 seconds out of pity for the girl.
