100%.... It felt like they just threw that in at the end... I think Tyra and Tim as friends is great... But the writers just pretending like Lyla and Riggins aren't soul mates.... It's okay when soul mates don't end up together as heart breaking as it is... but don't throw us a Tyra bone and expect us to celebrate. (Also the Tyra/Landry story line felt kind of ridiculous like they just needed something for their characters to do)

Lyla should have had the PERFECT life, she was beautiful, smart, rich, great family, dating the star football QB that was heading toward the pros. They were supposed to get married and live a dream life happily ever after. But then Jason Street got injured, her life starts falling apart at every turn it seems n she gets to experience how hard life really is. She was not suppose to be with Tim.

It was infatuation because they were attracted to each other after Streets injury. They didn't love each other Tim probably loved and lusted Lyla and Lyla felt nothing for her

I'm more thinking that they knew each other for many years, keep in mind that they grew up together. Tyra said she was in love with Tim since she was 5, so that's what happens in a small town. Tim most likely saw her interact with Jason for years, always seeing her for what she was, a great girl, the most beautiful in Texas, and i'm sure she was always well behaved, smart, straight A's (which we were told) so of course he loved her. But always stood by his buddy and never let anything happen.

I think the writers really fumbled in earlier seasons with them. In the first season, the show never even showed them having any meaningful conversation - even about Jason's situation. They should've had them spend time and bond over it, finding comfort in each other, and then eventually one thing would lead to another etc etc. Lyla at the time was attracted to Tim but was completely in love with Jason, and used Tim to subconsciously fill in his role. Overtime, they could've developed this into real undeniable feelings for Tim. For Tim, I agree with other comments that Tim could've just came to the realisation that maybe he was in love with her the whole time, but consciously blocked himself from realising this sooner as she was his best friend's girlfriend. The show also emphasises that Tim doesn't like talking, especially to girls, but desperately tries initiating conversation with Lyla in their affair because he WANTS to know more of her, how she's feeling, how she's coping.. He WANTS to share that time with her. They could've taken that idea (which was great in theory), have them confide in each other over Jason, and the expectations placed on them, and really sell us on why and how they fell in love.. But they didn't do any of that any just jumped right into sleeping with one another. Which was crazy. I think the concept was always interesting and the actors obviously had a lot of chemistry, but the writers were so focused on showing how much Tim loved Lyla (and not much of the reverse) without actually explaining how and why.
