It was the man who not only did not balk from the coalition in 1756, but who actually took the initiative and attacked them first and kept fighting after his bloodiest defeat (3,000 men left out of an army of 48,000), but who actually rallied his shattered forces, and went on to win further battles until his exhausted enemies finally sued for peace in 1763. To say he wasn't a Great king is sign of complete ignorance. An Englishman could never understand the significance of the creation of the Prussian state. The Englishman only wants to understand whether the man gains any sort of profit from the battle, but no Englishman would never understand the idea of Prussian duty (Think Immanuel Kant). Anyone will find the idea of conscription, of a Landwehr, and one's social status depending on military rank a danger to one's personal liberty, except for anyone who lived in Prussia. It was significant in that geography. Frederick's propensity to fight for a backwater shithole that had no natural resources, such as oil, manpower or industrial capacity to rival all her enemies is a responsibility nobody wants, and yet he's carried it pretty well

From what i have read, he even led in battle, and was a very competent, and skilled commandant. Another thing; the lyrics. They swap between glorifying Prussia and demeaning other nations. And that ending, man it oozes a sense of honest pride and loyalty. Truly, one of the best songs on this channel in my mind.

@Salmon These days everyone and their uncle in history is declared gay, especially all the people dear to right-wingers. Surveys (when this was still done) all confirmed about 2% of men are gay. So all these historic figures being declared lovers of the poop-dick is just a political move, and not based on reality. And I say this without having done any research about homo claims about Friedrich der Große (a tiny fraction of these claims sure must be true, so maybe he was - I don`t know).

@@mananaVesta Only Frederick and Julius Caesar are claimed to be so, in both instances as long as you're high status/of the nobility or the patricians nobody gaf what your sexuality is, (Greeks even allowed it, Romans say so long as you're the dominant partner you are not shamed). Genghis Khan for example, who's brutal compared to those 2 is definitely straight and even had hundreds of concubine-wives, Ivan the Terrible isn't claimed to be gay, neither is Adolf nor Stalin (who both genuinely despise/dislike them). Tbh it's an overclaim, Charlemagne, Charles Martel, Napoleon, von Ludendorff, Moltke the Senior and Junior, Kaiser Wilhelm II. I've never heard anyone or even anyliberal declared these men gay. Besides, going on Wikipedia and checking all the sources about the homo claims about Friedrich der Große I find go as back as a journalist working on it in 1929, a time where homosexuality is a taboo in the Western world, and the latest going in 2013, way before the alt-right movement gained popular traction or even the name "alt-right".

(Lyrics from Karl Sternau) Fridericus Rex, our noble King and Lord He calls every soldier to gather gun and sword Two hundred tall battalions and a thousand squadron corps And every single grenadier has sixty shots or more! "You blighted men" says his regal majesty, "In battle I want every man to stand by me. Silesia they begrudge me and for Glatz they do the same And they envy all the gold that lies within my royal name. The Empress has wed, with the French she does consult, And the Holy Roman Reich is uprising in revolt! The Russians have invaded, they are storming near and far Let's show what kind of fighting men the Prussian soldiers are!" "My general Schwerin and my Field-Marshall Von Keith And my Major General Von Ziethen are ready for the fight! Bolts, thunder, crash, and lightning - bloody hell and horrid woe! Our triumphs go before us so that all the world may know!" Goodbye, my Luise, will you wipe away those tears? Your man is a soldier who marches without fears! If every single bullet were to go and hit its mark Then where would every regent get their soldiers proud and stark? The musket ball makes a very tiny hole The cannon-ball makes an even bigger hole! The bullets are of iron and are cast of molten lead! And many straying bullets have missed many straying heads! Our cannons roar, they're a force that can contend And a Prussian soldier's loyalty, is faithful to the end! The Swedes in the north have the awfullest of field And anything in Austria can nothing better yield! The French pay their soldiers with bottles of pomade In Prussia every soldier is always promptly paid! Bolts, thunder, crash, and lightning - bloody hell and horrid woe! Who gets their pay as quickly from the Prussian overflow? Fridericus, my King, the laurel wreath adorns And every single soldier his loyalty has sworn! Fridericus Rex, my king and lord We'd follow you hell if only you would give the word!

on one occasion when things looked badly for Der Alte Fritz, one of his sergeants deserted, when brought back the king said "Why have you deserted me, my soldier?" to which the soldiers said "the things are going badly, sire" The alte Fritz aswered "Aye, so they do, see what, you stay with me for one more battle and if that one goes bad as well, we desert together" The sergeant then fought with notable bravery in all the battles to come, or so does the legend say...

The Swedish money was not about luck, it was about regular payment. During the 30th years war the Swedish troops run out of money and bitterly hungered, more than 50% of them starved to death. Fredrick said that he has enaught cash and is able to pay every soldier as promised, wich was also true.

I read that Friedrich even visited in suprise remote villages and controlled what his subjects do and crawled into dirty shacks to check them out. In the battlefield he also ate the same food as his soldiers and slept in normal sleeping bags nothing expensive. That's why his soldiers had an unbelieveable high loyalty to him and were even motivated to fight on when the enemy outnumbered them.

@@dr.ludwig, alle unsere russischen Kaiserinnen waren deutsche Prinzessinnen!
