I remember back in the 80's he was getting all kinds of recognition... We all thought, if you were playing with Ozzy you were the man. He is still my favourite Ozzy guitarist.
@angusorvid88404 жыл бұрын
@@BlackCatBonz Well, it was tough when he got shafted. He was my number one guitar hero in the hard rock/metalsphere back in the 80s. I was thrilled when I first saw him with Ozzy. He had a tough gig because no matter who stood on that stage with Ozzy was going to be compared to Randy. But Jake held his own. When he was fired I was totally bummed out and never really took to Zakk's style. Badlands never took off as they should have, as great as great as they were. But, lo and behold, he's had a renaissance and that's wonderful. He's an undeniable master.

Watched Jake live last year. I have a pick he handed me while on stage. I intend to look under a microscope to analyze pick scrape and angle, when I find a cheap good microscope. Yes I am a geek, but it was a great memory in hard times.

@@BlackCatBonz Very true. Other than Eddie, everyone was watching who was with Ozzy. That was the water mark of guitar gods then. Eddie and whom ever was currently with Ozzy and yes Jake was my favorite Ozzy guitar player too since we could not have Randy.

Jake plays such tasty riffs that 99% of players who think they're playing "Bark at the Moon" right... aren't. I'm a studio/session musician and I remember when he finally sat down a few years ago and showed the riff, very slowly, and every player I know was like, "WTF?! Sh*t, I've been playing that wrong all this time?" I think he and Reb Beach were the most underappreciated rhythm players of the '80s. Stay safe everyone. Cheers.

The Friedman stuff is just sooo good. And this demo did a really good job of showing off the versatility that honestly his stuff doesn't get enough credit for because most online demos turn the gain way up and just focus on that sound. It is not hard to dial in a SRV tone on a Friedman that will take expensive amps that specialize in that tone out to the woodshed.

Incredible sounding amp, like all Friedmans. Jake's tone changed drastically between BATM, produced by Max Norman, and Ultimate Sin, produced by Ron Nevison. I believe by the time of Ultimate Sin he'd had his Marshalls modded by Jose Arredondo. He was still using the cabs with the EVs and a Boss overdrive to tighten the woofy low end that comes with un-eq'd EVs. But on TUS album, his ability to control his own tone was restricted by the producer Ron Nevison who wanted one sound, and that was it. I think Jake was also using a Rat pedal on that album. The level of gain was off the charts, although it wasn't a mix as heavy as BATM due to the mixing process employed by Ron Nevison who had just had a major success with the comeback album he produced for Heart the previous year. Jake and Ozzy were expecting a heavier sounding album, but the Nevison was insistent about giving the album a much poppier character than BATM. Jake also hated the keyboards on both albums, but if Ozzy couldn't get a heavier mix, how was Jake going to complain about the mixing? Nevison also liked keeping the studio cold as he believed it kept musicians on their toes, but in an interview I heard not too long ago with Jake he said it made it harder for him to warm up his fingers. He still played great, pro that he is. But as far as his tone goes, a big part of that is also his style, his pick attack, the wonderful tone of a hardtail and a Duncan JB. That amp really has a tone that evokes the JEL sound. It's incredible. And you play BATM very well!
