I found a fox in a trap, caught by her tail. I freed her and gave her some of my sandwhich. She came home with me and spent 8 years on my farm. Loved her like a child. She got along with my Dogs and children. Never ate my chickens (She did like to stir them up though). She preferred to sleep outside so I made her a little house. Cold nights she would come inside to the porch but still was never really comfortable in the house. Great video, appreciate content like this.

I had a fox friend for several years. I used to own an acreage and left scraps for her kits when times were tough. She eventually followed me home and would sneak in through the cat doors to raid the cats' food. At the same time I was raising an abandoned skunk baby who I named Suzie. Once they discovered that it was warm inside when the weather was cold and miserable outside, they decided to move indoors full time. Meanwhile, the magpies would follow the cats, fox, and skunk around each moulting season and pull out any loose fur, and the cats, fox, and skunk, would let them do it to their heart's content. In my view it's all about empathy.

@@gostrum1 there are animal rights activist out there who reject the principle of anthropocentrism. They have that absurd notion that rejecting the difference between human and animal somehow raises the animals up, but the opposite is the truth, what happens is simply that man are reduced to beasts. The value of a human life becomes relative, it becomes a matter of optimisation, and we cannot make an omelet without crushing some eggs. Mankind can be more destructive but we are also more creative, we are the custodians of Earth, made in the image of God, and our potential is endless. Kindness is a human construct. Animals don't necessarily experience that the way we do, and it's for their own good they don't. Some "higher" animals are more likely to think like we do, especially primates.
@monjiaitaly6 жыл бұрын
@@ThefamousMrcroissant kindness is a human behavior, they may not experience it as we do exactly but they benefit from it. Because the opposite (human cruelty) turns them cruel and mean or a into a complete broken spirit, just as humans become.

Animals understand compassion, and do enjoy companionship. They're not stupid, and although they wouldn't do something good for the sake of being good, they would do something good in order to preserve the health and wellbeing of another living creature. Things like love, hatred, anger, jealousy, etc. are all experienced by animals.
@ThefamousMrcroissant6 жыл бұрын
@@monjiaitaly Perhaps, but that's not what you said though. You say "most of the time animals respond well to kindness" - which is questionable as animals do not necessarily interpret your good will as "kindness". Eg, if you provide a wild tiger and its cups with food for 6 years it will still eat you given the chance. And attempting to eat you isn't exactly "responding well" from a human perspective. It just sees your generosity as any arbitrary convenience and not as an act of kindness. This is a beneficial routine to them for if seeing kindness in things that aren't there(which practically never occurs between different species anyway) it might cause them to get hurt or even die. So "respond well to" is usually nothing more than being glad an advantage occurred for them. It is true they thrive off it as literally any animal would, but saying "animals enjoy things they enjoy" is a bit of a useless statement as it's by definition true, if that's what you meant.

when I was about 14 a red fox mother was hit by a car and killed just in front of our house. The pup was maybe a month old and we found it laying against his dead mother on the side of the road. We took it in, loved it, named him Sox and it wasn't long before he got used to us and accepted us as family. Foxes are very hard to keep, this is not a dog nor do they act like dogs. They get into everything, and I mean everything. They are more cat like than dog in many ways but they are also very temperamental and when they want something simply saying "no" isn't really and option, they just do not get it, ever. We kept Sox for about a year before he just became to much for us to handle. Rather than drop him off somewhere knowing he had no clue how to survive on his own we found a Fox Breeder who took him in. He was well taken care of and with other red foxes. The guy would send us an update usually including pics of Sox 2 or 3 times a year assuring us he was doing well. He lived to be 9 years old which for a red fox is really old and we fell like he had a pretty good life.

Not sure what his story is exactly but considering it's not a captive born/hand raised fox this is really special and unique.

Back in 2000 I think it was, I was out driving, and decided to take a longer road home. Was after midnight, on a Wednesday, and start of the winter. As I came driving through a small town, there was something in my lane. As I approached, I saw it was a fox, lying there, hit by a car just moments before I came. So, I stopped, got outside and strolled over. As I was standing there, right next to the fox, looking down at him, I could see there was no blood. He looked up at me, and started to run. That was when I saw his left rear leg, was " dangling " a bit. So I ran after him, and caught him between a hedge and a brick wall. He was in shock obviously. A woman stopped as well, and said she would call her son who worked with wild animals, hit and run and all that. I waited for like an hour, getting late, and cold. So... bugger it. I picked up the fox, and just placed him over my shoulder, walked up to my car, placed in the passenger seat up front. I got in, and he was just lying there, staring at me. I drove home, petted him a bit as it was a few miles. I placed him in the garage, with water and some cat food I had lying around. The following day, the guy showed up after me giving him a call, and we opened the garage. The fox had recovered, and getting him out, he sat down at the end of the driveway, licked his paw, and he was off. I would never have been able to lift a wild, fully grown male fox, unless he was in shock, but it was a cool experience. But, I did it, simply cause I love animals. Proud moment in my life. :)
