Really sobering message: not all people can fight a fire to save their home...sometimes the bravest thing to do is to leave it all behind and accept defeat. I'm sorry for their losses and grateful they are alive and that they shared their experience.

Homes can be replaced. You can't be replaced. DO NOT go inside a burning building without proper breathing equipment. Most homes are largely plastic, ie blinds, curtains/drapes, carpeting, linoleum, furniture, clothing, footware, blankets, towels, wall paper, vinyl siding, PVC piping, camping equipment, kyaks. All give off toxic fumes when burning.

I grew up in SoCal and lived there as an adult but haven’t since the late 90s. This is different than it used to be. We had wild fires at certain times of the year but they were containable. This is climate change and as a believer climate change is a sign of the times. Science and faith don’t exclude each other.

It takes courage and more than even lottsa luck attempting to protect a house in MONSTER fires like this one. Windy wildfires change directions and move waaaaaay too seriously fast, making it extremely dangerous to stick around trying to fight it, just hoping that roads aren't blocked so that you can get out alive (and you're probably fairly lucky that you did). Thanks for posting your video. And, don't attempt anything like this again. No material possessions whatsoever are worth being living shish kabob (as you've probably recently discovered).
