If you pause it just before the drill comes through you can see a very slightly different shade right where the hole is. They must have pre drilled and patched it up on one side to avoid an accident. I've always thought it was a missed opportunity that they didn't go further with Joey's nack for carpentry and house construction. They could have made this a side job for him that he does every once in awhile throughout the series to make up for his struggles at becoming an actor.
