PREVENTING VIOLENCE IN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS:
Park Dietz saw early in his career that much violent
crime could be prevented with early intervention.
He will describe a career-long quest to prevent
violence within institutions, including great success
in working with America's largest corporations and
great frustration in trying to work with educational
institutions, whose many constituencies create
roadblocks to the protection of students.

"Everything became relevant to crime solving"-- he is employing the "begin with the end in mind" habit which allows for data to be stored with a purpose. Most of us go backwards after we determine the end in mind. When we start with the end in mind, we can gather & categorize data along the way.

i absolutely love Park Dietz . he has absolutely been a pioneer in his field in many different ways. it makes me wince a bit when he starts talking about his suggestions and recommendations about 'media coverage and it's effects' on violent crime rates at around 33min... and how his suggestions about *not* sensationalizing crimes in the media (naturally) *did drop* the rate of similar violent crimes in large numbers. because what do we have now, in our current time? OVER-sensationalizing such violent crimes/murders, and murderers... an obviously forgotten (i often believe it was 'forgotten' on purpose... in other words, fear-mongering *News Programs* to keep people afraid at all times), or possibly even progressively ignored lesson of true, genuine success. SMH... it makes me beyond frustrated, because they *do* have (obviously not ALL, but) many tools at their disposal to have an effective outcome in many of these cases, and the idiot 'puppet media' (as usual) ignores the truth and the valid information that they are THERE to inform the public about, in favor of creating a half hour long terror-show. i only hope that Park Dietz, and those of his caliber receive their highly due recognition for the work that they have done, and the massive amounts of information that they have discovered in their fields, *for the good/protection* of the people, and a safer environment. not to even mention the vast amounts of information that they personally went in and learned from interviewing such violent, and criminally insane individuals. and i am *not* talking about Geraldo Rivera people... i am talking about very studied, very intelligent, and very innovative people such as Park Dietz in this lecture.

I don't understand exactly how one man can "understand" so much about this kind of thing. Sociology, psychology, epidemiology, criminology, he even mentions the "tenured Marxist" at Berkeley; hell, I'm 32 -- been reading and doing graduate level research on these things for a combined 20+ years yet I don't know what I've retained or what I'm surprised I've retained in retrospect. What is going on lol?

Joseph Jochman He's a very smart man. I watch such interviews all the time. I'm rarely impressed. He impressed me. Incredible attention to detail. Watch his interview of serial killer, Richard Kuklinski. He was able to get The Iceman to open up and thank him for telling him deep things about him. There was true respect there from a man who would kill anyone who made him feel the least bit insecure since being a teen. Dietz is a pro. If you are doing research yourself and want insights into how the world works, pay attention to the larger themes here - incredible red tape, misincentives, corruption in large government and educational bureaucracies.

Park, it's on the parents to teach these things at a youth, many of the woman who have something in their purse to protect would never use it. How do you balance protection against trying to get people to learn to teach thier children?

I don`t get it, here he says Psychopaths are nothing but beasts and basically hopeless cases and when he talked to The Iceman (in a documentary) he said that even people with the genetics for anti-social disorder etc. can become in most cases decent people if the parents raised them with love, affection etc. Basically saying that the genetics load the gun and the environment pulls the trigger. Am I missing something here or did he just really contradict himself?

Personality disorders come in many shades and colours, some are born with one and others are moulded into one. A child can have one but because of his or her positive upbring he or she doesn't become a person with evil intent. A child with a disorder brought up in a violent unloving dysfunctional family could end up spending life in prison for some crime. So where do we draw the line and not blame the adult for their criminal life when their upbringing is introduced into the equation. Is it fair to lock a person up for the rest of their life if they were victims of circumstances as a child? It's a hard one because though you can enter that child's upbringing into the equation you still have to protect the public from the violent adult if the adult cannot be changed. If I ever had a moment to speak to God I would ask him would he take a child's upbringing into consideration when it comes to condemning a soul to Hell or not.
