Although this is a lighthearted show: As someone with a relatively priveleged upbringing this episode was eye-opening when I first saw it as an 18 year-old. It made me aware that my actions could end up putting unintentional financial pressure on peers by forcing them to make a decision between spending outside of their means or missing out on experience. Since then I've been much more conscious of planning activities that won't put people in difficult monetary positions.

It's rare that we just split the bill into equal parts. But sometimes we go out everyone has a meal in the same price range and then we get a bucket of beer which is 6 bottles of beer in a ice bucket for the price of 5 beer. Since we are usually 5-6 guys everyone gets at least one beer. In that case it makes sense to split the bill so you don't have to keep track that everybody bought one bucket. But usually everyone pays for the things they bought because one in our group doesn't drink and it would be unfair to him.

My most recent case: I like camping but can't go often because of limited budget. My hobby has inspired my friend to go camping too, but he only wants to go if I go, and he wants to go often. My friend is rich, btw. Inheritance money. So he pesterd me about going camping every other week. If I said I dont have the money yet, he'd offer to cover me until i can pay him back. Good enough. Problem is, he's so used to a higher degree of living that the camping cost would go through the roof than what I'm used to if I go alone,so if I said yes I would end up with owing my friend a lot of money 😅 But I dont really mind. It's better than not having your friends around.

@@tomassoejakto wow, good for u to lke camping, i can never get into it cause i had a terrible camping experience with my school camping trip. Where we had to go camping n in one of the activites is jungle trekking, well let just say, i got lost from the group n i found myself a burial site. Not. A. Fun. Experience. 😂 simce then, i swore off camping or jungle. But in ur matter, if its effect u financially n may cause u to be in debt way way to much to ur friends, maybe, u should set an amount of times u both can go, or set a budget so that u both can compromise to something.🤗

@@sasha.v_v oh trust me, we set a budget, but you cant trust a rich guy to stay in it. You just cant. It's simply in their nature to have things go their (usual) way. CHANDLER: Hey, come on, we got the gift, the concert, and the cake. JOEY: Do we need a cake? CHANDLER: Look guys, I know it's a little steep. RACHEL: Yeah, whoosh! CHANDLER: But it's Ross. PHOEBE: It's Ross. JOEY: All right. CHANDLER: I'll see you guys later, I gotta go...do a thing. ROSS: Ok, sweetheart, I'll call you later tonight. Whoa, whoa, whoa, hey, hey, hey, you're not really gonna go through with this, are you? CHANDLER: You know, I think I might just. RACHEL: So uh, what are you guys doing for dinner tonight? JOEY: Well I guess I gotta start savin' up for Ross's birthday, so I guess I'll just stay home and eat dust bunnies. PHOEBE: Can you believe how much this is gonna cost? RACHEL: Do you guys ever get the feeling that um, Chandler and those guys just don't get that we don't make as much money as they do? JOEY: Yes! Yeah, it's like they're always saying "let's go here, let's go there". Like we can afford to go here and there. PHOEBE: Yes, yes, and it's, and we always have to go to, you know, someplace nice, you know? God, and it's not like we can say anything about it, 'cause, like this birthday thing, it's for Ross. JOEY: For Ross. RACHEL: For Ross, Ross, Ross. MONICA: (enters) Oh my god. RACHEL: Hey. JOEY: Hi. RACHEL: What? MONICA: I'm at work, ordinary day, you know, chop chop chop, sauti, sauti, sauti. All of a sudden, Leon, the manager, calls me into his office. It turns out they fired the head lunch chef, and guess who got the job. JOEY: If it's not you, this is a horrible story.
