Friends sofa cake tutorial

How to make a a sofa cake from Friends like the one in Central Perk! 'The one where Zoe's Fancy Cakes makes a Friends cake' :)
Of course you can also use this tutorial to make a sofa cake in general too, it doesn't have to be Friends theme, but who wouldn't want a Friends cake!

Basic Victoria sponge cake recipe -
Ingredients:
225g butter
225g caster sugar
4 eggs
225g self-raising flour
1 tsp vanilla essence
Method:
Cream together the butter and sugar, then beat in the eggs and vanilla essence. Once smooth and creamy, fold in the flour.
Pour in to a greased cake tin and bake in the oven at 180degrees for approximately 40 minutes, until golden brown and a knife comes out clean.
Buttercream recipe -
600g icing sugar, sifted
300g unsalted or salted butter, softened
optional flavouring
Beat the ingredients together.
Chocolate ganache recipe -
- To make chocolate ganache you can simply melt chocolate with double cream in a glass bowl above a pan of boiling water ( I use the hob to heat the water, but be sure to turn this right down once the chocolate begins to melt so it doesn't burn). I use the ratio of 3 to 1 chocolate to double cream.

Lyndsey Flanagan In my very limited experience, regular granulated sugar works perfect. As far as shelf-life, not sure.. mine doesn't last long. Haha Hope that helped.

Hi Zoe!! it's so last minute (I am following your wonderful tutorial as we speak??) I WAS going to cover in fondant, but we have a hate hate relationship :P So now I'm wanting to use modelling chocolate like you. However, I have homemade white modelling chocolate only. I was hoping to airbrush when finished. Would I be able to airbrush completely brown/orange from using white modelling chocolate? or do you think the airbrush colour would just bead and not soak in as it's chocolate?
