Friendship is Tragic 2: A Tale of Two Princesses: Ep08 - Meanwhile in Ponyville [MLP Audio Drama]

After the Diomedes Invasion and Princess Luna's dramatic repelling of it to save her kingdom and avenge her sister, everypony in Equestria is in mourning. They have no reason to question the official version of events. And even if they did, what would it change? Celestia, the only princess anyone has ever known, is dead and her sister has taken the throne even though she is nowhere near as good a ruler. In fact, Luna's reign proves to be not only not as good, but downright bad for some citizens. These include the Apple family, who have just endured the worst harvest in their entire history, whose finances are stricken by the taxes Luna just raised to pay for restoring Canterlot, and who might not be able to survive without help from friends. Unfortunately, as Applejack is coming to realise, her own growing bitterness over the cards life has dealt her may end the few friendships she has left.

What I love about this episode (and the series in general) is that it doesn't just show the horrors of war, grand villains, and fantastical threats, it also shows off the everyday sort of tragedies. The kind that everyday people would have to deal with. Which, in a way hits a lot closer to home than a war with flesh eating monsters and lich ponies. (SPOILERS from the first Friendship Is Tragic audio drama) Out of how everyone suffers in FiT, I can't help but wonder if AJ suffered the most. She became bitter towards Luna's flawed rule, lost her entire family, she pretty much pushed away Rainbow and later beat her half to death, became a muscular bounty hunter, learned that Rarity turned into a monster, and to top it all off, she had to watch Twilight off herself right in front of her. Granted, one could make a case for the others in the Mane 6 suffering just as badly (if not worse in some ways), but still.

This episode made me really hate Rainbow Dash. I can see why AJ nearly beat her to death in the sequel. Because her immaturity potentially cost AJ her farm and said the most vile thing about someone who passed towards their friend. While it doesn't justify AJ's later actions, it's hard to sympathize with Rainbow here especially after she promised to help AJ, who was severely short staffed and over worked to save her dying crops.

I get that apple jack made the un-smart life threatening choice but we all must realize. Aj is the one out of the mane six that has a a hefty responsibility to her family business. Any family that owns a business trying to keep their hard work a float would understand aj's choices. My family doesn't have one but I understand why aj did what she did in the apple sleep experiment and friendship is tragic

Mostly rd should've own up to her word but she was under peer pressure of impressing her teammates for the wonderbolts and can't say no. But yeah aj could've went inside w/o freezing herself to death but she was under the pressure of saving her farm and couldn't stop herself. So in the end they both had a price to pay.

Woah. After seeing this, it broke my heart to see Applejack and Rainbow Dash argue like this. I also felt terrible for what happened to Applejack and her family. The voice acting was legendary, and the storyline was terrific. It breaks my heart to see true bonds of friendship being severed and broken beyond repair. Great video, Scribbler!!

Breaking a promise, irresponsibly drinking and spending all her bits on cider, causing AJ to take matters into her own hands (hooves?) and then have the audacity to blame AJ and gaslight her by saying "Any normal pony would've stayed inside" while ignoring the fact AJ is in financial trouble

I like the Applejack and Rainbow Dash conflict because it's realistic. Applejack can really be stubborn, and I see her working to her detriment to prove a point. And, well, Rainbow Dash has always had difficulties following her element of harmony, and had a tendency to get drunk on success and attention, and forget her friends. The voice acting is great!

This is what I thought, Applejack and Rainbow Dash only told Twilight a part of the truth such as the reason behind their broken bond. The flashbacks were the only parts when they were giving her the true version of the story I suppose. It's so heartbreaking to see our favorite characters before everything went bad, to see lives broken after the lose of loved ones. Luna losing her sister, and the rest of the Mane 6 being away from their friend. It's always hard for me to read stories with characters violently drifting apart with their friends or family for various reasons. But don't hold back, I knew what I was getting into when I decided to follow your wonderful story. I'm ready for Twilight's heartbreaking awakening and to shed my tears.

That was a great episode. It is truly sad and heart breaking to see Twilight's friends gradually drift apart because she's gone. It makes me wonder if something like this could have actually happened in FIM with Twilight not being there to help her friends in their most difficult of times. Really sad to think about. And now we know what caused the rivalry between AJ and Dash. While Dash was right about AJ being out in that snow storm trying to work herself to death, she was straight up wrong for breaking her promise and bringing Twilight up was just low- AJ had every right to be pissed. I'm loving how this sequel/prequel is filling the gaps and answering some questions, like revealing what exactly happened between AJ and Dash, what exactly happened during the Diomedes invasion, Luna's reaction to Celestia's death, etc. I'd like to learn the full story of Fluttershy and Rarity, I'd like to know what exactly caused Rarity to become the animal killing monster she was in the first one and perhaps a look into Pinkie's story- I know all their stories are gonna be heartbreaking especially Fluttershy and Pinkie's.

See, the argument between Applejack and Rainbow Dash was a pretty cool scene because, at least for me, I couldn't decide who's side to be on. While yes, it was Rainbow's fault for not helping AJ and "bailing" on her, AJ should have realized that staying out for too long could be dangerous for her (hence the hospital bill and their already dwindling money) and could also damage the charms that are such a huge part of reviving the crops (and knowing what comes later, that makes this even more heartbreaking). Rainbow being the element of loyalty and bailing on her friend (who was even more in need than she realized), is definitely in the wrong on that part, but AJ I think is still too deep in her grief to accept her apology. Yes, Rainbow made a mistake, but if she comes to genuinely apologize, then it should be taken with a whole heart instead of completely kicking her to the curb. BUT, if we are to read the context clues, it is implied that Rainbow has done this numerous times before, so even with her sincere apology, AJ has absolutely every right to be angry at her for lashing out, especially with Rainbow whipping out that little comment about Twilight. And along with that, Rainbow had actually promised to help AJ on her way back from practice, but decided to stay and drink rather than help her, which makes AJ's anger even MORE justified. There are a lot more details, and I really could go on for quite a while pointing out all these details and tie-ins, but I just wanted to point that out because I really like that conflicting feeling that came from watching that scene. DO you forgive Rainbow Dash for bailing on Applejack, even though she apologized? Or do you support Applejack who is so deep in her grief that she kicks Rainbow to the curb even after her apology? Because when she finally got the help she needed, that help betrayed her and "made" her decide to stay out in that blizzard and nearly get herself killed? You could go back and forth for a long time, and I REALLY love that.

Everything is just amazing!! The story, the art and the amazing voice acting is just spot on! So much emotion is put into the voices is just incredible. It's scary on how much the friends broke apart when Twilight was in a coma while they believed she was dead. I'm still angry for what Luna did. If she didn't mess with Twilight's mind, then none of this heartache and hate would of ever happened. Applejack's love for Twilight deeply affected her so much that she buried it all in her farm work. I get that what RainbowDash did she was wrong. She should of kept her promise. But I also agree with RainbowDash, which she said on AppleJack's actions. Applejack could of waited until morning when the storm past, she should have headed inside for safety and took the charms to a safe place. They were both in the wrong and losing Twilight, fluttershy, and spike is just an anchor on everypony's hearts.

While I feel sympathy and understand both sides, I’m now on AJ’s side because its been implied Rainbow has broken promises to her multiple times, and unlike Rainbow, AJ’s focus on the farm is because her family depend on it and are screwed if their trees die. This episode was intensely heartbreaking from the focus between two friends! My heart is breaking and crying from the sound of this friendship breaking up. I really felt bad for AJ almost dying in the snow, but even though I understood that RD made a selfish mistake, I kind of felt bad for her as well when she tried to apologize in the end and got betrayed instead. Lost and Cloud nailed this episode! Nicely done Scribbler! The Awakening is going to be even more emotional; I bet.

This episode was every bit of emotional as I thought it would be! I felt really bad for both AJ and RD. I mean I can certainly see both of their points of view, For Applejack the Apple family was so financially troubled to the point of being on the verge of losing the farm. And looking at it from AJ's point that would give anypony a reason to be frustrated and pissed off. And RD was so focused on becoming a Wonderbolt while also trying her best to still be there for her friends, But sadly she managed to mess that up. But despite everything and even though AJ was mad Rainbow Dash had the decency to at least try and apologize but after everything those two said to each other they both took it too far. But as season 1 of FIT shows, They both said and did things that they eventually regretted. Anyway, This episode was definitely worth the wait Scribbler, I absolutely loved every second of it! And everyone did an outstanding job bringing the episode to life, The voice acting and art are all positively sensational and flawless make no mistake about it! Truly marvelous and brilliant work guys you all put your hearts, Souls, Blood, Sweat and tears into this project major props and kudos to you and Happy M.O.M.!!!

Damn! That ending was painful! You know looking at this, and seeing how good their relationship is in the good timeline (even being hinted at them being lovers in the finale) it really puts into perspective just how much all the girls need Twilight as much as Twilight needs them. This is also probably the angriest Applejack has ever been, prior the first FIT 1 (aka later on in the timeline) and also shows just how selfish and immature Rainbow Dash is. It's really hard to not feel that Dash didn't deserve being beaten up in Friends Like These Are A Rarity now, knowing what caused the rift between her and AJ's relationship. Overall, this episode was great. Great character work, art, and voice acting all around. It's nice to take a break from the larger conflicts and focus on more smaller conflicts. Like Rockhoppr3 said, this series isn't just about war, villains, and magical threats. It's also about (and in a way more about) the small scale tragedies following events like that and the domino effect they have on one or more lives. I can't wait to see what you have in store for when Twilight shows up again. Its kinda funny how Twilight was the main character in FIT 1, but here she's mostly just been a cameo. Well, how amazing it is that one episode can totally change my opinion about RD. Felt bad for her in the first season, but now... well, Applejack did quite a good job as the element of honesty and gave RD some bitter truth about her: focused only on herself, disloyal to old friends and unworthy of her element. That combined with her cocky personality later makes us think that she in some way deserved what the fate gave her... or rather took from her, heh. I totally could see that happening, since in the original show we can see that they don't really like each other at first. I love this drama so far, and it will get even better when Twilight wakes up and sees the ashes of the world she knew. I feel so evil, hahahaha, but I'm for sure going to watch next episode.

Farming is definitely not the "simple life" that some people claim it is. Never was. It's harder than anything. The average farmer works from sun up to sun down and eats and goes to bed and does it all over. I can imagine poor AJ doing that. It's not that she would want to, it's that she has to.

My heart hurt right now😭, certainly as applejack as rainbow dash have their point, this happened because applejack didn´t come back in the house when the storm appeared, but it´s rainbow dash´s fault too because she didn´t go to help applejack when she promised help her. although i feel sad for both of them. This whole series is just a major observation in what happens when Equestria loses Celestia and Twilight at the same time causing so many tragedies and so much pain all because of something that only happened because Diomedes couldn't just make some stupid peace to TRY and get their meals ethically(Mostly) All of what happens is all caused by the Diomedes horses because of their full blown betrayal of Equestria and most of the reality they live in because of all the chaos they caused for Equestria and the kingdom of Diomedes itself

Oh i'm so going to enjoy this! The fact That Rainbow didn't show up to help Applejack nearly cost her life and will bring the farm down more. I think we know what led to Applejack's family's deaths now. Rainbow messes up a lot i know. But yeah She REALLY broke Applejack more now. Can you just imagine breaking a promise that almost cost your best friend your life and their families lives? I would still comfort Rainbow knowing she didn't mean for any of this to happen. Rainbow should have never brought up Twilight. Even though we know she's alive. It is pretty scary seeing Applejack this Pissed off. That hit me when Applejack told her to never come back to the farm again. I can imagine how much that melted Rainbow's heart. Lost can always make Applejack scary when she's REALLY mad. Amazing story Scribbler. Rainbow needs comfort right now for destroying one of her best friend's lives forever. Because Dash may screw up now and then, but she's a generally nice and awesome friend deep down who does her best for her friends. I wish we the viewers could help Applejack with money for her family.

Seeing this video and the season one of Friendship is tragic made me realize that Applejack is the one who suffered of them all. First her friend that she cares the most Twilight goes missing and declared dead(even though she in a coma), Rainbow Dash didn't help her with the farm and unintentionally or accidentally backstab her leaving her heartbroken, while the others went their separate ways and never see each other again i mean i know Pinkie is in a denial that Twilight is alive (even though she was right all along but they didn't believe her), Fluttershy decided to help the animals and keep herself shut because of her anxiety to other ponies even some ponies are her friends but without Twilight in Ponyville she can't open up with others, Rarity well she beginning to lose herself but not yet and Spike is beginning to have a 100 years dragon sleep. Also seeing this video Im with Applejack on this one friends don't let friends down or abandoned even if she willing risk her life for her family and the farm. What Rainbow Dash did was careless she did promise to help her but her dream being a Wonderbolt got the better of her and didn't fulfill her promise which cause their friendship breakdown. I mean i understand Rainbow Dash goals and dream but she didn't come to help her and broke the promise and ended up arguing until Rainbow Dash mention Twilight name which cause Applejack felt heartbroken to the core since she the one who cares Twilight the most like a friend and family either in the original cartoon series cannon and fan fiction alternative universe of MLP FIM.

Some time ago there was a book series called Dragonlance. It was epic and involved with heroes and villians of all sorts. As the tale reached its climax with the destruction of the evil goddess Tiamat and her dragons you'd think Hickman and Weise the two most excellent author team I'd ever read, would make the timeless used ending of "... and they lived happily ever after. " Not so. Almost immediately the Wizards of the Coast, the owners of the Dragonlance saga began killing off their protagonists except for Flint Fireforge who died of a heart attack during the war and Sturm Brightblade who was killed in battle. All the remaining heroes were killed off one by one. It was as if WOC were trying to kill off their fan base so they could return to doing only gaming modules not the least if which is DandD. I tapped this story line and it appears this series is following in the same pattern as the Dragonlance saga which is kill off the main MLP protagonists. I can only conclude that the reason to do so is mental fatigue of having to continue making up new MLP storylines and are having issues of writer's block. I'm a Brony from way back and the familiarity of the established MLP characters kept me coming back for more adventures. But with the trend I see of killing them off as WOC did to their's makes me wonder how much longer will you be viable? To be sure, over the years I realize that the MLP franchise has many facets for its audiences. Some are fun and rated Whee. Now it is including adult of R and even X. I'm not sure what a rating Grimdark should have though before playing there is a disclaimer page. As I tapped to someone some years ago who complained about the LGBTQ+ MLP was including I simply informed the writer of said complaint that the thumbnail pretty much informs of content before you tap it. I live in the fantasy land of MLP who live happily ever after and am content to remain there.

Over doing it when Dash said Pinkie was cringe and then putting Dash in a position where she convinced herself not to go back to Ponyville? Yep. Jerk. I think some people are missing a few things when saying RD was the only one at fault here, or worse, implying that everything that happened to AJs family was her fault. Dont mistake what im saying though, Rainbows definately MORE at fault than AJ, but the situation was just a rough one regardless. -Applejack is VERY hard headed. Thats a big trait of hers. Im pretty sure when Rainbow didnt show, she stuck out the bad weather out of anger. I share the trait of being stubborn, and I know ive put myself in danger before without really thinking it through because I was angry. Even Big Mac mentions it not being a good idea to plant them right then, it wasnt that time sensitive. -RD was being heavily peer pressured at the bar. If you were in a bar, with people who could effect your dream job, and they where telling you not to leave, then said youd buy drinks and that youre probably getting the job, itd be VERY hard to leave. She even made it clear she was under a lot of pressure too, and didn't want to make a bad impression when she was just getting her foot in the door. -When Mac left Granny Smith alone, im 99% sure it was supposed to be when he was meeting with the loan sharks. So what happened to her family wouldve happened regardless. Also its hinted at a few times that even had AJ been able to bury the root rot charms, they wouldnt have worked. Rainbowdash called the apothecary a quack, and Applejack mentioned him being really fast at his job, and that there wasnt a line, which makes me think she was scammed while desperate. Also I maybe way off, but I feel like a big way Rainbowdash was coping with everything was pretending it was normal, and throwing herself into work. She tries to banter with AJ like nothings going on, she seems to be avoiding the other main six somewhat, likely because it reminds her too much of everything, but the wonderbolts is a source of nostalgia. She can pretend it's all normal if she's still shooting for her dream job. I think the line that says it best is when RD says she's not the cause of AJs problems, and AJ says no, but she isn't helping either.
