Does anybody else find the precision and elegance of this oddly satisfying?

Well it’s not like this anymore...my first flight as a tot was in 1982 when I was 5. A UAL DC-10, since I was an unaccompanied minor I got treated kind of special and looking back on it it was very cool. The flight attendant would give me extra food, playing cards, several wings, tour the cockpit during flight, sit in first class and take me to my next gate for the final leg of my flight, those days are the best. That went on for 8 years...so Cool! I got to go into the cockpit and sit in FC

Today's airline training video would say "In first class ask if they prefer paper or plastic utensils, and in coach try not to hit the passenger's face when throwing the pretzels at them"

I absolutely love these videos... so elegant, and reminds me of travel in the 70s and 80s...

I watched this in case I ever get bumped up to First Class from coach and will then have the requisite knowledge to critique the FA if they make any mistakes in the service. I would never return a glass with any wine still in it, and will insist that it is refilled until the bottle is empty

The last time I had a meal on a plane was 1992. Ham croissant, cheese, crackers, and an apple all served in a wicker basket. Easy to serve, easy to clear away. No fuss, no muss.

That's because they got rid of a full-fledged international First Class cabin. But there are other carriers besides US airlines.

I flew regular in first class between mid 80's and end 90's on domestic flights in the US but that kind of first class service I did not encounter on Delta, I came in on international fights on European companies and the impression I had was that domestic first class was of the same level as a business class on an international flight of an European company
@cbiasizzo2 жыл бұрын
@@daylightdaylight6612 I'm a flight attendant. This training video was solely for international flights. It just wasn't mentioned in the video but I promise this was an international training video. In 2004 United didn't have suites on domestic unless a 747/777 was being repositioned.

I'm confused. Both the narrator and the copyright notice at the end of the video refer to "United Airline," in the singular, not "United Airlines." Sounds like it could have been a mistake.
@roachtoasties2 жыл бұрын
Probably a mistake. Since this video was used internally, they just left it that way. Obviously, something to be seen by the public, like a commercial or flight safety video, would never be left with the airline referred to as "United Airline."

a real shame that UA attendents DO NOT!! do this elegant service in First Class!! We all know they basicly just slam it out and forget about any real service. They should view this as a real training support and put it to use!!! Sadly it rartely happens

Will US airlines ever go back to this type of service…
@nondescriptnyc2 жыл бұрын
As long as US carriers look for ways to cut cost and maximize revenue, we will never see this level of service again, I am afraid. Sure, I understand that, during COVID, full meal service wasn’t feasible from the infection control standpoint. However, the box meals American and Delta served in first were clearly SUPER low budget. They literally gave me boxes that contained cheese plates, sandwiches, etc. that are usually sold for $8~$10 in coach. They could have EASILY served box meals that would match their usual first/business meal budget, especially with the ENORMOUS stimulus packages they received-but they chose not to. Instead, they chose to spend the money to keep the exorbitant executive compensation. Shameless.
@xbt8582 жыл бұрын
United international premium class has never been good. You are lucky if the senior flight attendants holding those positions are not nasty or feel put out by having to actually work. They just slam everything out and go on their rest breaks.

Shall we start with Pub.L. 95-504? I would not go so far to say it "ruined" the industry; however, certainly a game changer in every aspect. Now, it's 2020.., allow me to introduce COVID-19. Only time will tell what's next in such a volatile business. I'm pretty certain kiss the fruit and cheese and ice cream sundaes goodbye.
