The Mage Exams Arc are so underrated. I love it personally as it gives us a more in depth look into how magic has evolved over time, how some magics can counter others, and how the ranking system of mages is presented. Love the reactions and looking forward to the next video as it can't come any sooner!

Is it underrated? It's one of my favourites, and it introduces many fan favourite characters. I think it balances between being the contemplative side of Frieren with all the meaningful flashbacks with Flamme and Himmel, and everyone's character study, and the entertaining (more mainstream, one might say) exciting actiony scenes, that could invite new audiences who are not deep into Frieren's more quiet scenes. And it's cleverly written, so to me it's one of the best.

German here for some explanation about the Word Übel. Übel will be, most of the time, used as a word describing Nausea (like pregnancy-nausea or to much drinking). But in this kind of way its used to describe something less than Evil. its kind like a early stage of evil. I guess the difference is the "i kill you only when i must to" or when the joy of killing is not complete manifested instead of "i kill you anyway and don't give a fck"

Its actually something called "Chekhov's Gun", wich is the ideia that in a book or any kind of media everything that you as the autor introduces should be relevant to the story in some way.

Amazing reaction. I can't remember if the anime mentions who Ehre's grandfather is (I think it might in the last episode), but it's not exactly just a throwaway line about how outdated ferns fighting style is. Can't wait for you to react to the next episode with Ubel and Wirbel's fight (and the other fights between the two parties as well). Also Denken is smart af, he's definitely one of the strongest mages in the exam (even without his intelligence).

Funny thing is, when you describe Ubel as giving you a really uneasy, icky feeling, it's perfect because that's basically what her name means. 'Evil', 'Sick', 'Wrong, 'Gross'...those are the sorts of connotations that word has. Just a very negative, unsettling sort of bottom-of-the-stomach feeling.

Kim isn't actually far of with her "Look how still she is!" Stille is the German word for "Silence". If you want to interpret the flow of Mana into your surroundings as noise the only way to attract the Stille is to be Silent with your Mana.

The way i interpreted ferns conversation with the other mage is that fern has learned a lot more complicated magic as well, but theres no reason to use anything other than basic attacks cause why bother casting big complicated spells when you can just shoot a quick laser at them and be done with it and save your mana

Not particular, she only admit to show minimum strenght. They both hide their mana, so they use the same tactic against the mages. Lure them in security with simple attacks, so they dont get scarred and get suspicious. Its a good tactic and Frieren prevents the other parties targeting Fern if she doesnt stand out so much.
