"Bitloos", what's that called in English?
Okay, I really don't know how
such a bridle works.

I still to this day never use a bit, unless absolutely necessary. I herd cattle with just bridle and reins. And most of the time when I trail ride its with nothing, just hold his mane and use a bit of pressure from my knees and heels for direction. No saddle, nothing. As long as you are completely bonded with your horse and there is that trust between the two of you, it's amazing what you can accomplish with so little ❤ I will add I'm from Oklahoma in the United states. I'm in the heart of indian territory and we still follow the same practices and techniques as they did many many years ago. 😊

I know nothing about horses and riding and bits and halters, but everytime I see a horse battle with that thing in it's mouth pressing it's tongue down, looks like to me🙄, I feel sooooo sorry for them, I don't know how people can do to animals what they won't tolerate themselves. Same with a collar and lead around a dog's neck, nò human would like that, or a steel ring through a bull's nose, or a damn noisy bell around a goat's neck, imagine the cònstant noise close to your ears! I think humans get away with it, because an animal can't say help me please, it hurts! 🤦‍♀️

My horses were a little bit strong at first with a bitless bridle. But after they warmed up to it, they all became far more supple and "gumby". When I switched back to using a bit, they were all much more soft and responsive. It's a great training tool.

Barbara, The Queen is not easily impressed.... Sometimes literally.... Hard to imagine a horse like that, as my Dad worked with race horses and polo ponies, which have considerable "temperament" in many cases... Greetings from the United States, where I happen to support the use of bitless bridles, and I actually prefer one designed by Jesse Drent and Eva Roemaat in the Netherlands. I would not use a bitless bridle in all cases, but would definitely prefer bitless on a well trained horse I know and trust. It does take a period of acclimation, especially for someone who has been riding in accord with FEI guidelines. But once both the horse and rider are used to it, the bitless bridle is so much kinder to the horse.

Very good! It looks like 2 successful rides without any problems. 🤩 Native Americans rode - extremely well! - without bits or spurs up to modern days. Though not dressage riders, they are still recognized as some of the best working riders when it comes to direction and control, without inflicting such things on their 4-legged companions. I am happy to be among those who have been educated that such implements are not needed to successfully, and comfortably, ride most horses [those who were trained, but not already abused and damaged, by humans].

It becomes less about control and more about cooperation, using feet and knees, even the sound of the voice rather than bite. It's more subtle and takes some time to get used to for both you and the horse but look at you: fantastic! you make a great team.

When I first tried it felt like lack of control aswell. Then I tried only with cordeo and had no control whatsoever. But I started working on my seat and leg position, I always used voice so it ended up with somewhat listening horse on cordeo and horse that listens as much in bit as in halter. Just matter of releasing the reins more, but my horse is collected by nature, releasing reins when horse does something right teaches that its correct thing to do

Uniek is just going along. I seriously doubt she would run away from Yvonne, but something could startle her and it happens. I love how meticulous Yvonne is in preparing a horse for a ride. Then comfort of the horse and safety of the rider is essential. Uniek looks like something is missing here. Even without the bit she struts her true Star Mare form. When Yvonne and Rinske switch riding and Yvonne tells Uniek to stay, Uniek is like I am not a dog.

For first time bit less that was awesome, she stayed on or behind the vertical which is awesome! Please don’t give up with going bit less, the horses will love you for it. Plus they pay more attention to your queues, body & voice, the horse is much more relaxed due to no pain!! I had to go bit less as my Gelderland had tooth problems, once used to it she was fantastic. I wish more people would just try it, you don’t need a great chunk of iron in a horses mouth to control it! Although I don’t think they are allowed in affiliated shows 😰. Thanks for trying bit less, may I ask which brand you used? I used Dr. Cooks for years until I lost my Gelderland to failed colic surgery😰 R.I.P Lillia ❤️🤗🐴🥰❤️❤️

If you are going to go bitless, I highly recommend the bitless bridle and other products from Dr Cook... I use these products on all of my horses, almost exclusively and have done so for over 8 years with 3 Arabians, 2 Thoroughbreds, & 3 Frisians. They even have bitless bridles for driving. These bridles are wonderful and allow for much better communication with the horse and more control, without the pain of a bit. All other bitless bridles are a waste, IMHO. I only wish that I was allowed to use them during Dressage competitions, but sadly, they will not yet allow it. Someday, perhaps they will. Please Research it for yourself @ bitlessbridle.com/product-category/bridles/english-bridles/ You won't be disappointed. I promise. Love your horses, btw. They are beautiful!

I have road tested many types of bitless bridles and consider the Dr Cook about the worst of them for a couple of important reasons. First, the pressure they exert acts the opposite to a snaffle because of the way the reins are attached to straps that tighten around the chin and over the poll. This makes means the pressure of the reins ALWAYS act indirectly and never directly on the horse. Second problem is a big one. Because the reins attach to straps that pass through rings and under the chin etc they tighten the bridle around the head when the reins are applied. But when the reins are released, the tightness around the head is only partially released due to the friction of the leather passing through the rings. I tested this and found that if I applied a 1kg pressure to the reins, the pressure around the head averaged 0.93kg under the chins and 0.71kg at the poll. When I released the reins completely so there was a long loop in the reins, the pressure under the chin averaged 0.71kg and only dropped to 0.33Kg after 30secs. The pressure only dropped to 0kg when the horse shook its head. If it didn't shake its head the pressure remained at about 0.17kg under the chin even after 2mins. This means that the pressure from the reins is not under direct control of the rider in a Dr Cook and instead the pressure is regulated by the friction of the straps passing through the rings and against the body of the horse. On 7 horses the results were very similar on each when adjusted for fit. The way the Dr Cook works presents an unclear picture of how to follow the feel of the reins and should be avoided in my view. I also tested 4 other bitless bridles and found a well fitted side pull with a wide, soft leather noseband to be the best device for bitless riding for all the reasons that the Dr Cook is not. I hope that helps.

Really pleased to know you're trying bitless. I hate seeing the bits used on horses.

Uniek will love this, I'm sure. Way better than having metal hitting your teeth. I'll venture to say, Yvonne that you could get on Uniek in the feild with no tack, an she'd let you ride her.❤✌️

If you think about that (less control/ without a bit) How much control do you have over a 1200 + lb. animal actually? Horses are prey animals, they'd rather run than fight. However, if cornered or flight is not an option, I'm sure they could kill us swiftly. Uniek seems to know you and what is expected of her from you and it appears you are a good leader. Love the videos.❤❤❤

I like the idea of bit less riding it just seems more humane.

I like the idea of riding bitless. A friend of mine has a horse which was traumarized by the previous owner and she always rode bitless because the horse would Not tolerate the bit. Of course not in dressage. But I am curious, what is it that you wanted to finde out by riding bitless?
