Why not try the laser therapy on his neck when the vet is there for Uniek? It can't hurt. It may at least shed some light on a possible treatment modality for that or other nerve issues. I know I've harped here before on photobiomodulation and will henceforth mention it no more. (I have a multifaceted personal interest in it.) But maybe, just maybe, it may yield something positive.

Just another thought concerning Rising Star: From his very day on earth, he was and still is a real wonder of a horse! Even if he would become champion of the world, he would not be able to touch more hearts than he already did and does now. He made and still makes thousands of people feel love and compassion, and you, dear Yvonne, opened so many minds for a better understanding. Yvonne, try to remember that you, personally, did not cause Risey to have Wobbler. It seems that he was born with it. Just now he is not in pain, he is able to walk. He can be a comfort support animal as long as he can still stand, walk, graze slowly, etc. I know that this is hard on you and I applaud you for sharing your pain with us. You will know when to pull the plug because Risey will let you know. Meanwhile, delight in his affection and what he is still able to do. Thanks, Yvonne.

In very young horses, massive and rapid growth can lead to a narrowing of the nerve canal in the spinal column. Wobbler syndrome then occurs from the first year of life. It often affects large warmbloods, thoroughbreds and Arabians. As the horse grows, the wobbler syndrome can disappear completely. Dear Yvonne, don't give up. With your love and care, Risey can make it. He has the best life with you and the greatest chance of defying this disease. He may never win trophies on the show circuit but he is certainly one of your soul horses. There is so much kindness in his eyes. He will make it. All my love for you, your family and the horses ❤

Anything what could help in Riseys recovery and sharing knowledge is worth trying. Such a wonderful horse, supporting coummunity, and horse loving Yvonne deserve support from what ever direction. I watch the Friesland horse community ever since my first foal was born in 2020 and were for more the two years in a heartbreaking servete health situation. When the vets gave up on her, telling me putting her to sleep I brought her back to her mum, giving her the best attantion and all the time she need beeing with her mum out in the pasture, plus the support of a Facebook community wich had a lot of experience in her case. She will now turn 4 years picked up on growths and lives happily with mummy on her side. She will never be a Champion or whatssoever but she is the Champion of my heart and the funniest little character you could imagine, that is what counts. I truely believe that with all the love an affection of Yvonne Risey will overcome the servere situation and will be able to live a happy live one day again out in the pasture with friends. ❤

Yvonne will give him time, time at the moment is what most vets say to give a young horse with Wobblers, time is often the greatest gift we give in these situations. He has no pain and he has a army who loves him, willing him on, willing him to recover.

Seeing him happy, inquisitive and energetic regardless of his condition while you are trying to not break into tears, is disheartening. If he is not in pain, then time and your care will be his ally. He's still growing! Give him time. Surgery does work. A lot of horses have been as good as new afterward here in the USA.

Risey can obviously feel how sad you are. His nuzzles and head bumps seem to tell you, “It’s okay. Whatever you have to do, I love you and it’s okay.” The way animals can sense our emotions and comfort us is so special.

You dont have bad luck with the horses, Yvonne. I've had sickly pets all my life, that encouraged me to become a vet tech. Someone once told me that there's a reason those animals end up with me, because the universe/God knows they get the best care possible here. Im certain that's the case with you as well. Vets often think horses must be "useful animals" because they are expensive to keep. So, they think that there is no use to keep such young animals that do not fulfil expectations. But we think differently because we have seen his story and fall in love with that little sweetie. I crye when I think he's maybe put into sleep...but I don't want to judge for that. Operations are hard for horses..and if it doesn't help...he suffers for nothing. It's a very hard decision to make. But let's hope that he's coming to better. Anyway it's going to take months to recover slowly. And that may not happen.😢

I think Risey’s doing an excellent job self managing his neurological deficit. Trotting feels unstable so he actively tries to avoid it. He’s clearly smart too, as a few videos ago you tried to spook him again with a tire and he couldn’t have cared less after it surprised him the first time. We already know he’s resilient so if any horse has a shot at making it, it’s got to be him.

I am a great-grandmother with Ataxia(human wobbler)needing a "walker" device for every step. I think I might become bed bound, and if so I might wish that the right to choose euthanasia were legal. Mercy on all horses and humans with Wobbler! ❤

Dear Yvonne, I felt your heartbreak in today’s video. I’m glad since you filmed this, you’ve had suggestions and more options open up. Something will help. I know you feel unlucky, but I disagree. The luckiest day was when Risey and Uniek met each other and started bringing joy and wonder to so many in the middle of a pandemic. Rising Star lifted spirits, made us laugh, gave us something to look forward to, and the miracle of his adoption by Uniek is forever memorable. We were all lucky the day he came into our lives and if that time is shorter than we want, what we received from you, Uniek and Risey makes him forever in our hearts. Besides, I still have hope. Yvonne said out loud the biggest consequence of the wobblers , that he may fall or trip without warning on her or someone else . This will add to the decision as involves anyone around this beautiful horse . He is very aware of his limitations and has been given peace away from his energetic horses when Yvonne moved him to her stable.

Even if he spends the rest of his life in the pasture, he is still enjoying being alive. He is being cared for by an amazing woman who has deep compassion for her horses. The bottom line is what's best for Risey. You've examined every avenue for him, and you've had him treated in hopes he might have a normal life. If that's not possible you have to do what's in his best interest. We've seen you make the difficult decisions, and you will do the right thing if you have to. It's not easy and it never will be. Dear Yvonne, Rising Star is so young, don’t let anybody rush you into doing something you are not ready to do. This is completely your decision and if Risey is not in any pain I would let him enjoy his life. How terribly sad to see a strong, young horse unable to control his body. I know it must tear you up, Yvonne. You make a good point about the possible danger of his falling on you or someone else in the stable. I'm so sorry you have to have this experience with your beloved Rising Star. I can tell in the video that your heart is broken over Risey. Your recovery has taken a long time to get to where you are now, but it has been worth it. During recovery your dreams for your own stable came true. No way to know what Risey's future holds, but I'd like to think he can pull off a miracle too. We will support you no matter what happens. It is heartbreaking to know that Risey definitely has Wobblers and the hurt that you are experiencing! Being a horse owner is no easy task, but there is joy in it. My Mother in-law has horses of her own and she loves them dearly. One of them is partially blind, she worries about what will happen to him if she leaves this earth before him. I will keep you and Risey in my prayers!

The thought of Rising Star not being able to gallop free and safe in the pasture is so hard to bare, it's so hard to see him not being able to control his legs and yes it could be very dangerous for you Yvonne and any others around him. It must be one of the hardest decisions you have had to make, but we all know you will always do what is best for Risey, it may not what you or we would want, it would be what's best for Risey. Yvonne, i dont think you have bad luck with horses. You have horses, and having a few, there is always some of them needing more care, fall ill or get injured. That is what we horse owners kind of signed up for wanting them, and loving them. Also, i think those horses needing lots of care comes to you, cause your heart and your hands give them the best chance of life they can get. Its a gift Yvonne, not a curse. ❤ Risey was meant to come to you, get that special care and a chance, and you will do the right thing by him. No matter what the outcome will be. Rising Star....the luckiest little colt in the Netherlands...to have come to Uniek.. and Goengamieden, then to Stal Horjus, to his " Forever home..." If only we knew....but then, what?? Yvonne, Risey will let you know when it is time to let him go. His Wobblers might progress gradually, with his hind end becoming progressively weaker, until he is no longer able to walk or support his weight. Or the degree of compression on his spinal nerve could suddenly increase, causing him to drop to the ground. Whatever happens, you will know when his time has come and will of course do what is best for him. I hope that in the meantime you are able to enjoy his beautiful spirit at Stal H.

Chiropractic is more like physio for horses. Sadly wobblers is the nerves in the spine inside their bone channels. It's more like spinal stenosis in humans. It's a hard one.

I don't know much about horses, but what I got from this video is that Wobblers makes Risey a dangerous horse to be around because he might seriously injure himself or others if spooked due to the lack of control of his hind legs. Yvonne had already mentioned this in another video.

Dear Yvonne, please please don’t give up on our sweet Risey. There is neck/spinal surgery that has been successful, including for race horses. There are a number of top equine hospitals in Europe and the US that do this surgery successfully. The Herd will happily pay for all the expenses, to a Gofundme or whatever you choose. So, please look into all the surgical options, and chiropractic too. It is very difficult watching Rising Star but even more so for Yvonne. When we have animal things do not always go perfectly. However they expect us to do what’s best for them. It is our responsibility as owners. That is how we love them. It’s not easy. But if it is the right thing to do we must do whatever is necessary so they don’t suffer. Its heartbreaking and I am so very sad for Yvonne and all of the Herd. We love you Rising Star!

There is still hope 🙏 Rising Star could be the 1st horse to be successfully treated for Wobblers. Also, I think when we find cures for animals, then there is a cure for humans. By caring for other species, we are also caring for ourselves ❤

Even if they're not cured, there are horses who live good lives despite having Wobblers. For example, Anya, the Model Friesian mare at The Friesian Experience, who has reached a good age and can be ridden and pull the carriage--carefully, of course! There's hope and time for Rising Star.

Yvonne, I’m sending you a big cyber hug today!! I’m praying for Risey. I also have a pet whose health is compromised. My eight year old companion, my Labrabull Lexi, appears to have a cancerous tumor in her bladder. I’m told it’s inoperable. I’m trying homeopathic things for her, and thought she was improving, but she’s again, straining so hard to go…Today was heartbreaking, as I listened to you tell about Risey’s diagnosis again, as my girl is lying by my side. I guess we just do the very best we can for our loved ones, and leave the rest to God.
