This was my most favourite time :) Most of the time foals were unsure by my person, but after they realised I can scratch all those itchy spots, they approach changed and they came to me everytime I entered the pasture. I´m not sure if you would agree with me, but even when the foals turn they back at me, I didn´t budge at all and instead of it i redirected their "Hey, I try to be a boss here" mind to "Oooh, yes, that´s the spot". You would think that it wasn´t a good method, but I wasn´t kicked at all and in the adulthood the horses were sweet and didn´t turn they back at me at all. (In adulthood you can correct various mischievs, but I was very, VERY, carefull what I did around little foals).

The foals may get confused about who their mother is. They give them a few weeks so they learn each other's smell well. There are a few reasons this is important. First, some mares may not be very tolerant if a stray foal approaches their foal. Also, the mare can also get confused and take the wrong foal. If that happens, the pedigree and identification will be incorrect. The foals are not yet chipped this young. But this is the reason they do DNA from hair when they are chipped. They do double-check that the foal is with the correct mem.

As prey animals in their natural state, perhaps when you squat it could look like you are crouching low to pounce on them and attack too? In this case though, I suspect you present a smaller threat because it draws them in rather than running away

The colts are different because their mothers are different. The filly is afraid, not afraid because her mother keeps interjecting herself between u n the foal If the filly starts to get close her mom will move her away from you. The filly’s mom keeps her distance from you telling the filly be careful, don’t get to close the person might get her. The little stud colts mom is just the opposite. She doesn’t show fear telling her foal to b brave that it’s ok to get close. When you are squatting down you are reaching the horses fundamentally of self preservation. The squatting is like a lion crouching n makes the horse think that something is going to get them. Don’t accept the challenging behavior by backing up from your stud colt. With horses the first one to move their feet or back up is the looser. Make your colt move his feet which tells him you are boss. You don’t have to b mean just close the distance between u n him.

.....Opening scene...the foal has to spread it's front legs to graze but mom doesn't. I realize it has long legs but I find it strange that mother nature(?) has designed them this way. At what age will this stop? and what will have changed? .....The threatening....I find this odd...even a horse should realize you are not part of the herd. You are the "provider" and completely different from them...you would think they would know this.

🐴mom here. We have 35. 2 babies. Just some other ideas (facts) 4 u. Love from 🇨🇦. 🤣 The 2nd they r born they *automatically* know who their mothers is. The mother licks the foal off 4 that exact reason. Starts the bonding process. It's not cuz ur squatting; his 👁 saw movement. he's exploring his surroundings. He would come 2 u 2 explore. His chewing is cuz he's comfortable. All 🐴 show thier comfort this way. Watch a 🐴, when they're nervous, scared, frightened, (flight or fight mode) or In pain; they don't chew. In thier mind *they* r *higher* cuz they got u 2 move ur👣 1st. 2 them as U said >> *Ur* the submissive 1 (🐴). Next time if u don't want him 2 come in2 u try this this.>> he does that turn ur shoulder 2 him. Going nead 9n can b taken as a challenge. More likely @ maturity though. As 4 water, he stopped 2 watch his mom. "If it's safe 4 mom it must b safe 4 me also".
