Yep totally agree about looking for a good bands and offering free work. Just about every big-name out there started that way. That’s exactly what I did. Looked for bands that played really well live, and were professional. Talked to them after they played and offered free work. That work lead to paid work. Rinse and repeat. Great advice as always brother.🤜🏻🤛🏻

Hi Bobby, great video mate. Hope you do more of these in the future. I really like your style and the fact that you are not trying to push plugins or hardware on people. It is very refreshing to see in today's KZbin world. Keep up the great work, certainly my favourite channel for Music production. Cheers.

Thank you very much for answering my room resonance question; I suspected it was to deal with it at the source. The room sounds good overall and is tall but the side walls are bare. Time to drag some furniture around. Thanks again, Barry

Would you consider doing a video where you rate mixes people send you or something similar and give feedback? Think a lot of people would find that super useful! Thanks

I was gonna suggest this too! If there's any channel I want to see do mix reviews, it's this one

This will be a great video series. Question: How we know we have a bad recording room? I mean, what should hear in a bad room. reverb is a clue but what else ??
@FrightboxRecording3 жыл бұрын
It's tricky because there's no such thing as a "perfect" room. You'll know that you're having issues if you hear obvious room spill into your mics....although sometimes it can be cool.

Your videos have been extremely helpful and my mixes for my own band are really coming along. I'm thinking of working with other bands but I live in a small city so my local clientele would be limited at best. How often do you work with non-local artists and how do they find you? How do you advertise your services to a global audience?
@FrightboxRecording3 жыл бұрын
I mainly work with bands from the east coast. These days I'm mixing 80% of the time and those clients can be from anywhere. Apparently there's a lot of metal happening in Australia. I never really advertised, it's all word of mouth. Usually bands hit me up after a release comes out that I've recorded or mixed. For example, I just did an EP and LP with a band called Tombs that's known internationally. When other bands come across it, they usually ask if I can mix their stuff. I'll definitely be covering this more in future videos. Hope that helps, Adam!

Great video! I recently got back into your content because I just started recording some of my own stuff, and your tutorials are a lot easier to follow than songs other youtubers, especially since you're focused on metal. My question is this: regarding bass, you've mentioned that you don't bother frequency splitting (lows get compressed, highs get distorted) and that you just blend a clean and dirty signal. I use a Darkglass X7 with my band which does split and compress/distort the lows and highs. It sounds great and is the best dirt I've ever had for bass, but do you think I could get a little extra oomph or sparkle by blending in the clean signal from the parallel output, possibly even compressing it? Cheers from Denmark!
@FrightboxRecording3 жыл бұрын
If it works for you, stick with it. It's not to dissimilar to what I do. I'm mixing an album right now where the producer printed the distortion on the bass track and I just used the 100% dirty mic. If it sounds good, it is good.

How would you go about mixing a Live band with only One Guitar Track? I use to played Bass for a High school friends band a few years ago and I recorded all our practice's. The Drummer who I grew up with Passed away recently. I want to mix those songs. Just wanted to know how you would go about it. Especially the Drum Tracks that have all the bleed from the other instruments and the Guitar Track only being one. Everything is Mic up except the Bass witch is a DI track

Are you capable of re-recording the guitar tracks?

try an aux send of a 100% wet short reverbed guitar panned slightly the opposite way
@FrightboxRecording3 жыл бұрын
Great question Jerry! My favorite trick is to widen the guitar track. I usually send it to a stereo buss and delay one side by 20-25ms. Instant width.
