Definitely nailed it with the conclusion - if you want to put in the time and effort to learn and prepare for it correctly then definitely worthwhile. For me it was all about a goal to reach. Progression in calisthenics can be tedious so having a skill to learn helps with motivation. I love the process and path of learning maybe even more than the outcome, so skills like the muscle up are perfect for this.

Very good video. I got injured a year and a half ago by doing muscle ups when I wasn't ready to do them properly. I got tendonitis on my wrist that made it unable to move for 10 days and then, unable to hold basic positions. I also experienced very weird pain by doing very bad form muscle up (kipping but no chicken wing) in my arms. It felt like my tendons has been stressed too much and the long pain (lasting more than an hour after the workout) provoked nausea. That is just to tell people that you are right, don't mess with muscle up. I would recommend to not even perform them until you have the strength to do them in strict form (meaning that you need a good pulling strength) Clearly, the muscle up is just an ego booster just as you said it in the video. As I am now working on static skill, I don't even do muscle up anymore. Don't rush progression. Again, very informative video and great content.

Thank you for proving one of important points. I think that most people wont really benefit that as much, you are right. All I know is: The Muscle Up is NOT just a Party Trick that just needs the right technique I was more than strong enough to do the muscle up by resistance training standards But it took weeks of specific training for the ring muscle up to actually get just 1 clean rep Training the transition is very important and proves that it’s not just a simple trick
@alexjulius693 жыл бұрын
Yes, muscle ups are not just a flashy trick, I'm doing it in every single one of my training sessions when I can, and I've grown considerably strong. My ring muscle ups and strict muscle ups have improved too. And overall my pulling and pushing strength has increased significally. Muscle ups are king.

Really excellent video!! I started training on rings about 6 months ago. When I finally got my first strict ring muscle up, I immediately made the mistake of overtraining it for a couple weeks. I developed some elbow pain and decided to drop the movement for now. Thankfully my elbows are feeling great now, because I do lots of bicep curls/wrist and finger extension work for the sake of prehab after my workouts. I will wait until my weighted pull ups and dips on the rings are at about 40% before I start regularly doing muscle ups again. Right now I’m at 25% body weight added for those. Thank you again for the really great video, your content is high quality and I hope you’re feeling healthy!

First of all congrats to your job! 2. On 24 dec. I made 100 Muscle-ups, my new PR (after 70, last year) in less then 50minutes. I was 100% that I will have pains in my body several days, but.. surprise.. nothing ! :D A lil bit I felt in my forearm and my back a light muscle cramps. The last 5 Muscle Ups I made very hard, but 95 were easy. 19x5 sets. 3. WHat I wanna say is that I have 190cm and 91kgs, Muscle-Ups are OK, but I cannot do a front lever, back lever, planche.. I am working on them but it feels for me that are impossible movements. What do you say, Can I make them once in my life? :)) I am learning them since several years..OK not very focused on them, bcz I make Triathlon and Crossfit too, but always it feels like something impossible. Which kind of trainings do you recommend for my body? weighted movements, or isometric trainings? (My legs are "big" bcz of cycling )
@miguelalejandrogutierrez73043 жыл бұрын
You got to specialize in the movements and maybe change your training because if you did 100 muscle ups ( with not a lot of kipping ) in 1 hour I really believe that you have the strength to do almost every pull movement. Planche and push movements are other history, but the same you gotta start training around the moves.

Dear all, I got a question, after I watched the whole video( thanks btw for the incredible and valuable content) it raised me a couple of doubts... The video itself explain perfectly all the pro and cons of the movement itself. My question is considering that there are many videos on KZbin, which most of the time they even contradict each other: What is the best progression suggest to learn a clean explosive muscle up at the bar? I'm currently able to do quite a considerable amount of pull ups but no idea where and how to start to apporach the learning of this skill. What do you ultimately suggest? Thanks a lot in advance
@FrinksmovementTV3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thank you for the comment. I highly recommend starting with once a week heavy weighted pullups and second day (or two days) high pullups. If you can already do many pullups - your goal is to increase weight on weighted and increase height on high pullups - eventually you will hit the muscle up this way 👍
@nicolarossini19383 жыл бұрын
@@FrinksmovementTV Hi thanks a lot once more for the video first and secondly for the prompt reply. I'll definitely start to do so then, I unfortunately have only a 10kg vest and I was able to do probably around 6x6 with it, now I will start with high push ups then.
