I’d recommend Zealots for Knights and Inquisitors for Renegades, the reason being that with either combination you have access to both light and dark spells. For Heretics (not that this matters in the campaign) it depends on circumstance. If you’re facing an enemy hero with light magic, inquisitors remove positive effects with their attacks. If you’re investing in fire magic though, the zealots’ mark of fire essentially makes your hero deal 50% more damage.

Very curious myself too. I only did a quick testrun on a scenario and it didn't seem that bad. Then again, not playing on a super high difficulty (why torture myself when I can have fun eh)

If I remember correctly, when you get those boots you can walk down the river south to the unrevealed part of the map for some sort of easter egg.
