@@CathyMee I'd love to know what their reunion in the undying lands was like. I did try to write my own version, but yes, I want to know too. I do love that Sam did follow Frodo though. Love the video, I'm not a shipper of them in the gay, sense, but I get why people do. That's all fine with me. I think for Tolkien he really saw them as being from different classes as well, and that would have been a barrier to a romantic version as well as his Catholic leanings. Anyway, thanks so much for the video.

It's also possible that Sam could be bi, and love both Frodo and Rosie the same way. I mean, it *has* been suggested by some scientists that sexual orientation is more of a spectrum than we think. As for the friendships Tolkien likely had in the war, one kind of ends up making those close friendships when you're facing down a common foe and you are being shot at from all sides, let alone hiding in a foxhole. Didn't necessarily mean he was gay. Additionally, on a finer point, I think he wrote Legolas and Gimli's relationship arc to resolve the years-old enmity between Elves and Dwarves, as a model of how to overcome old assumptions and biases. Gimli's personal growth arc by itself was all about learning to let go of pride and a massive ego: Gimli: "I have the eyes of a hawk and the ears of a fox." *encounters Elven arrows in his face* "Ooh!" Elven archer: "The dwarf breathes so loud, we could have shot him in the dark."
