I have sadly found very few videos (on any subject) who’s creator understands what it takes to be a quality presentation. The biggest problem is almost always the audio. Your knowledge and concise manner of sharing it, not to mention professional production quality, is a pleasure to discover in a sea of noise.

Brilliant, helped my technique to get up rope much more efficiently. I always seemed to have to pull the rope tight from under the chest ascender.

Nice video! I'd love to see some suggestions on frogging with only prusiks. Connection points, changeovers, downclimbing, etc. Keep up the good work!

Thanks! I don't think the Frog system (at least by traditional definition) is really ever used with knots. There is a standard 3-knot ascending system, and I've climbed on a 2-knot Texas system, but for a Frog to work the "chest ascender" needs to auto advance up the rope as you stand up. Some people are quite efficient with the 3-knot system and I've seen some amazingly fast rope climbing speeds, but I am not that proficient. Perhaps I'll take the time to learn and then do a video so that I completely cover the topic of rope ascending systems.

This is really cool. I don't plan on ever caving because it scares me, but I do love living vicariously through cavers on youtube! I saw people go down this 500-600 foot shaft in a Georgia cave and wondered how they did it. I guess this is how. Wonder how long it takes to ascend with that kind of height.

Some do it in around 20, I’d say the average is 40 mins.

Hi Derek could you please make a video for showing how to use de Raumer stck up?
@DerekBristol5 жыл бұрын
I don't own the Raumer Stick-Up and have never used it. I'm planning a series of tutorials on aid climbing, and the final one in the series will be on "advanced techniques". I have a friend that owns a Stick-Up, and maybe I'll borrow it to test how much additional reach it provides. I've been a little skeptical that the small increase in reach is worth the extra complexity and lack of balance, but I don't know from first-hand experience.
