@Frolic & Courage thanks! What website would you recommend for buying online tickets or "day" passes to the Collusiam, Vatican, and other main attractions in Rome?
@FrolicAndCourage Жыл бұрын
I recommend buying tickets directly from the attraction websites (be sure to switch the language to English and don’t open a new browser when processing payment). I purchase direct when I know my plans won’t change b/c tickets are non-refundable. For guided tours I use Viator : www.viator.com/Rome/d511?pid=P00050571&mcid=42383&medium=link&campaign=Rome If using Viator, I like to look for tours with a lot of 4 or 5 star reviews and the badge of excellence, along free cancellation up to 25-48hrs before - I ike the flexibility! Other folks also use Get Your Guide as an alternative 👍🏽

I think it is safe - my sister and I traveled together on the train, but like any train station be mindful of your surroundings. Pack tight, pack light, and always keep your hands and eyes on your luggage. It also helps to plan your route in advance and move quickly. If you get a weird feeling at any time, remove yourself from the area as quickly as possible. Most people mind their business, but always be alert ❤️

Great video! Learning so much! Really appreciate all the information. Will be taking a cruise in a couple of weeks this will come in handy. Got a question if you're taking the train from Civitavecchia station. Would buying a BIRG ticket covers unlimited trips for one day to and from Civitavecchia to Rome and back and also included all metro rides? Or we need to buy a round trip BIRG tickets to cover that? Comparing to buying a standard round trip Trenitalia train tickets to Roma Termini, and then buy additional 24 Hour Metro ticket to get Rome City center?

Thank you for watching nluu! A 5-zone BIRG should cover your trip for the day, metro and bus included. Just be sure to jump on the earliest train leaving the port and possibly the second to last train (if you miss it there will be another!) before you board in the evening.

Thanks for the informative and helpful video. There seems to be a lot of confusion about which areas are covered by the CIS - (Carta Integrata Settimanale) weekly ticket. We are going to Rome a week today and our AirBNB has a Lazio postcode and we need the CIS ticket to cover as far as Gianicolense/Ravizza. I could find nothing online to confirm it does but when pressed our host said that it was. The transport zone system in online english is quite opaque and I was wondering if we needed a CIRS/BTR - (Biglietto Turistico Regionale) weekly ticket? I just hope our host is correct or our daily transport to and from our AirBNB to the Centro Storico will be much more difficult!

@FrolicAndCourage Жыл бұрын
Thanks Isabelle! Since you are traveling to one of the smaller areas of Rome, this seems like a great option! Be sure to put your exact start and ending address in Google maps (and the date/time of departure) just to see if there is an alternate route that may be more favorable using the bus or walking. If you purchase a TrenItalia FL ticket it is only valid for the train ride, I do not believe it covers transfers. Once the train ride is over, i suggest buying a ticket for the tram (one of the tickets listed in the video depending on your itinerary and needs). Have a safe and fun trip!

No problem! I don’t know much about the Cotral app, but I do know there is a ticket validator/scanner on the bus. Visiting Rome at the moment and bought the weekly pass but really I’m finding that Rome is actually relatively ‘small’ and easily walkable compared to say Paris and I’m barely using the pass at all. Bonjour Antoinette. First of all.. thank you so much for this informative video. Im traveling to Rome in May & i was totally confused & tried to understand the huge map, that by chance you just explained it in a simple way. So after wht i heard & read, the validate machines are before entering the train & also inside the train/ bus itself? Correct me if im wrong. And in case i missed it, i can write down the date/time by myself ( anything else?) Your video is extremely helpful! ❤️
@FrolicAndCourage Жыл бұрын
Hey Genevieve 👋🏽 I love that this video helped you 🥰 The metro requires you to validate the ticket in the turnstile. Once you pass the turnstile you are good to go - no validation needed while on the actual metro car (there are no validation points there). On the bus, you have to validate your ticket while on the bus on a ticket reader near the bus driver or entry door. People may be standing in the way, but they will move. If the machine doesn’t work, then write the date/time on the ticket to avoid fines. Otherwise, if the machine works and you just missed it or forgot and get caught, you’ll have to pay. Hope this helps! ❤️

Hi Awilson, welcome! 😊 Once you purchase a public transportation ticket or pass you have to scan it at a dedicated card reader at the station (or on the bus) to show you’ve paid for the ticket. Once scanned, you’ve “validated” the fact that you legitimately paid the required fee. Does this make sense?

Hey girl I used your videos about how to get around Chicago through the bus and metro system last April. You saved me a ton of money and now here I am, watching you back for Italy. I wanted to ask a few questions: 1. You mentioned that on some bit tickets, it runs for 100 hrs. Are we talking about just 100 hrs worth of ride or does the timer start as soon as you validate it even if you're in a transport? 2. I'm gonna be in rome for 3 days, which ticket do you recommend? I know you bought the Cis ticket but is there a ticket where I can use it to rome, Florence, and venice? Or are these tickets only valid in rome? Thank you!!!!
@FrolicAndCourage2 жыл бұрын
Hey girl! That makes me soooo happy to hear that you were able to save as much money as I did on transportation!! 😁 to answer your questions: 1) it’s 100mins (not hours, unfortunately) the timer starts when you first use/validate your ticket. 2) It depends! I’d go through your itinerary to determine when and where you plan to use public transport. If you plan to use public transportation a lot, look into the 72hr tourist pass. I mainly focused on getting around Rome so the tickets I mentioned are only valid for the Rome/Lazio region, but If you want to travel to different cities (Florence, Venice) look into TrenItalia tickets to get there and the individual cities public transport options.👍🏽

@FrolicAndCourage Жыл бұрын
Hi Srishti! The public busses are for everyday use, make more stops, are much cheaper (usually no more than $3/ride), and don’t run the same routes as hop on hop off busses. Hop on/off busses are specifically designed to stop at the major sights and are more expensive (around $45-60), but for one price you don’t have to worry about transfer fees or an extensive transport network.

Hey Jaspreet - you can buy the tickets from the kiosks in the metro station, from an ATAC office, or online w/ an app - check out the official site here (www.atac.roma.it/en/tickets-and-passes/roma48h). The best way to the Vatican depends on your location, time of day, traffic, and whether any events are taking place on the day of your visit. I’d suggest using Google maps to route your trip a few days before and the day of your trip for the best routes. I took the metro and walked a few minutes from my hotel without issue, but check the maps before you go! 🙂

Thank you for such an informative video! I’m traveling with husband & 2 kids this coming summer. First time ever. I’m a bit nervous and trying to learn as much as I can before hand to make the trip memorable. Are the kids fare for CIS same price as adult? Thank you
@FrolicAndCourage2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, Vanessa! You’re doing the right thing by researching and learning in advance and you’ll be so prepared by the time your trip comes👏🏽 The great news is that if your children are under 10yrs old, they travel for FREE with a fare-paying adult, no ticket required! Otherwise, they’ll need a ticket. Check out the Rome public Transport website (ATAC) FAQ here 👉🏽 www.atac.roma.it/en/frequently-asked-questions/do-children-have-to-pay-for-public-transportation-in-rome Hope this helps 😊

can you use roma 72 ticket to get from termini to airport ?
@FrolicAndCourage7 ай бұрын
Unfortunately not 😔,l the airport is outside of the central region of Rome so you will need to purchase a separate train ticket (either Leonardo Express or FL1 train).

Thank you for this thorough video. Question: if you purchase a pass, do one need to validate every time or by validating the first time is enough?
@FrolicAndCourage2 жыл бұрын
You’re welcome Martha! You must validate the card every time you go through a turnstile 👍🏽

Hi, I posted a question yesterday but I guess didn't get posted or got deleted. I was wondering if you have any feedback for me. we were in Rome earlier this year and on the last day, we purchased a 100 min ticket to get to our destination. unfortunately, we didn't know we have to scan our tickets and we got ticketed literally 30 minutes after purchasing. We tried to communicate with them and show the timing but they didn't even look at the tickets time and issued fines. Do you know if there is a chance to fight this or if we have to pay?
@FrolicAndCourage Жыл бұрын
Hi Panteha, just seeing this post. Yikes, it sounds like they were vigilant in their enforcement efforts that day. All tickets must be validated and as you’ve seen, officers are not interested in hearing anything else besides the validation machine doesn’t work (in which case you have to write the date/time you entered, etc). There is a way to appeal the fine (visit www.atac.roma.it/en/utility/pay-your-fines) if you want to pursue it, but I’m not sure how successful people have been and I’ve heard your appeal must be written in Italian. I haven’t gone through the process, but if you want to pursue it please let us know how it turns out!
@pantehapanah378 Жыл бұрын
@@FrolicAndCourage Thank you! I guess we have to pay them. We don't know how to write in Italian. I don't think their approach is nice. hurts because we didn't even think of violating their system. They need to have at least a wave or grace system for the tourists. Thank you so much for replying back!
@FrolicAndCourage Жыл бұрын
Anytime Panteha! I’m sorry you have to go through that and a little grace would be nice ❤️ Ticket validation in Rome is serious business!

Is it true that if you forget to validate or the machine is not working, you can simply write the date and time on your ticket?
@FrolicAndCourage2 жыл бұрын
It is true! But if the ticket isn’t working I’d let an attendant know (especially if you have a weekly pass or longer).
@paulgerhard517010 ай бұрын
We were really surprised that the MULTIBIT 'rechargeable' cards can only top-up one trip at a time from the ticket machine, once you have used up the tickets you purchased... makes no sense

Does the Roma 24h or 48h ticket cover the FL5 line to civitavecchia?
@FrolicAndCourage Жыл бұрын
Hey Dee 👋🏽 the Roma pass is valid within the limits of Rome, so it unfortunately does not extend to Civitavecchia.

Thank you very much for this useful video! Just one question, if I want to buy the CIS ticket, how do I proceed to personalize it? I mean, If I buy it from a ticket machine, is there an option to put in your name and date of birth? Or should I write down my information by hand? Thank you
@FrolicAndCourage2 жыл бұрын
Yes - on the back of the card there are boxes for your name. All you need is a pen to fill in the boxes and you are good to go!

How much does it cost to get from the Civiteveccia port to Rome center via taxi?
@FrolicAndCourage Жыл бұрын
Hey Donna, it costs between €125 to €170 to get from Civiteveccia port to Rome via taxi. If cruising, you can also check to see if the cruise line offers a transfer as an excursion. 👍🏾😊

@@FrolicAndCourage Thank you for answering. We are cruising, but they are not offering transfer bc we are staying two days before and after the cruise in a hotel we chose.

would you recommend the CIS for a week of traveling in Rome for 6 people? Alsoo is it possible to use one pass for the whole group or is that illegal 🤧
@kathrynvogtmann-ii2ui Жыл бұрын
Using a taxi, for example, 4 friends use a taxi that will cost 20 euros,. Is that 5 euros per person or 20 euros per person?
@FrolicAndCourage Жыл бұрын
Hey Kathryn! It should be $20 for the taxi ride 🚗 Typically, taxis shouldn’t charge per person unless you have more than 4 people. They key word is “shouldn’t” but some drivers may try to test that limit.

what about the Tram?
@FrolicAndCourage2 жыл бұрын
Hey Christy! I didn’t spend much time (at all) on the trams because not a lot of tourists take them and the network is not nearly as extensive or well connected as the bus or metro routes. Fares are the same as the other tickets 👍🏽

Can a 10 BIT ticket only be used on the day of purchase?
@FrolicAndCourage2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jac! The 10 BIT is for 10 single journeys and you do not have to use it on the same day of purchase. Once you validate the first ticket you have 100 minutes to use it. Once the time expires, your next ticket will not be active until YOU validate it - whether it’s the same day, the next day, next week, etc. Hope this helps! 🙏🏽 😊

How can I get from the Terimini to the cruise port?
@FrolicAndCourage Жыл бұрын
Hey Thea- purchase a TrenItalia ticket at any one of the kiosks at Termini to Civitavecchia. There are only a handful of trains leaving everyday that may - or may not - align with the cruise schedule, so plan accordingly! From the cruise port take a bus for around €3 (cash only) to your cruise line 🚢

@@FrolicAndCourage Thanks for responding. Should I purchase the ticket online to secure a spot?

Anytime! You can to be extra safe and secure your spot, but there are so many seats on the train that I doubt it will be full. Just be mindful of the time and arrive early!
