I'm a 32 year old Muslim girl and in my family hijab isn't practiced. We're not even that religious. I'm the only religious one in the family and at one point I wanted to start hijab, as I already do all the other islamic practices. But eventually, I had the same feeling, that I don't want to represent the religion in my clothing. I want to see myself as human before any religion. After my father passed away three years ago, my mother became very overtly religious due to some relatives around her. They have been telling her negative things about me being 32 and single. It's been very painful, as it's affecting me and my mother. This experience has made me distant from organised religion. I don't know what to do next, as I do still believe in God, but am traumatised by religion.
@SueRibelle13 күн бұрын
saying "lol" to this might come off as ignorant but this truly resonates a lot. I am 33 and I'm single too. good thing my mother doesn't care about me being married or not. but "religion" definitely traumatised me as well. I could never get off my mind that every single thing that I was doing was either a sin or a good deed to be regarded by Allah. I seriously believe I broke free from all that pressure. it had just become too much.

I love your stories. My mom was the first to wear the hijab/ Jilbaab in her family. Only married women used to cover their hair back then. Her mother discouraged her by saying that she was too young ( she was a preteen). People used to be culturally Muslim but not religious. My mom is the one discouraging me from taking off the hijab. It’s like history goes through cycles. I wear the hijab to not break her heart and because am not really confrontative. I wish I could live life the way I choose and still have my family’s support. Unfortunately, I have to choose one and I choose me. I’ll be taking it off once I move out. I live in the west thankfully.

I'm Muslim. I think a lot of people (especially men) use Islam as a way to gain more power and control especially on us women. I personally believe that people make Islam harder to practice compared to what the religion actually teaches. I took off the hijab (only because I was made to wear it) and decided to start over without another person trying to control how I practice the religion itself. When I began practicing Islam on my own, without any external influences from others, I personally began to love the religion. I still haven't worn the hijab, because I want to do it on my own time on my own pace. Thank you for sharing your story.

I live in spain, one day I was forcefully robbed by a group of muslims, 2 women wearing hijab and 3 men. All arabic. The women did nothing but run after them, they didn't actually harm... My big question is, isn't this all ironic? Islam forces women to make this big sacrifice, but then some islamic men are robbing and sexually harassing and assaulting like it's nothing. I once asked my ex muslim arab friend, she says that it is filled with irony. She says that some men she knows view eating pork a worse sin than robbing or sexually harassing.

lol yes (ironically laughing again) the religions themselves maybe were initially built with pure intentions. as I mentioned, as guidelines to lead more "ethical" lives. but people became such vile representatives of them, outsiders ended up feeling hatred, justifiably. There's 2 billion muslims in the world, and so many of them come from rough backgrounds since colonialism. Some muslims suck at following the religion. That's life. But it doesn't reflect Islam. When you understand your life as an adult, you don't need a religion to live it. You have freedom now except for government pressures. Some people never grow up and understand reality. If you have a good understanding of how the universe works, you believe in magic as a Child. As an adult, you need to give up childish beliefs. Everybody's journey is different, and they can't live your life, and you can't live theirs.

Girl you are so brave🎉 I respect you for your bravery. Many people will not like this video. What drives me nuts is how its super acceptable for men in Islam to monitor and control womens bodies. It a form of power and control. Once I saw a video of a women in a hijab and a man in the comments told her to cover her hands with gloves on top. The audacity and the entitlement. Another time I seen a converted german muslim walk up towards a turkish teenage girl....shaming her for arousing every man who sees her. What a creep. So inappropriate. How terrified are these men to lose control over women if women stepped into their power?! Pathetic and sad. P.S I have no hatred towards hijab because I love all women. Women are beutiful. Women are creation 🌸

oh nope, that's not true! it's not "super acceptable for men in Islam to monitor and control womens bodies", that is NEVER the case! let's not be misinformed. they are OBLIGED to stay away from gazing, that is what they are responsible of. that is never accepted, let alone "super accepted". you have been heavily misinformed about that important part. I'm sorry you came across such cases that made you believe that that is the truth about the men's duties, but that's not the case in reality.

You’re strong, smart and beautiful. I wish every happiness to you and your country. There are many good looking ladies with covered heads. And maybe this fashion will return sometime. But just as an ordinary cloth, I hope. Not some thing, that represents oppression and fear. I have tradition in my country: to visit church women have to wear headcloth (no one is gonna kick you out, if you don’t). I quite like how it looks on me. It is very important for people to notice that each person has the right of choice. I never had the opportunity to talk about this topic before, but it always intrigued me. Even in christianity, people sometimes want to impose their beliefs in you. And I could never understand what is the point of that. About neutrality, I feel the same. People expect us to follow their beliefs blindly. And that is the biggest issue of all. Not the hijab itself, not people's points of view. But imposing it at others.

I never understand why people always seek external god, when "god" is most likely to be found within every conscious being. Perhaps consciousness itself is the god, and thus every conscious being would also be the god. I think theories like Carl Jung's Synchronicity come closer to explaining weirdness of this world than Quran or Bibble, both of which are based entirely on an external god.

Great story. Interestingly, this still happens in today’s political landscape. Many people find themselves "trapped," compelled to follow/accept ideologies they don't genuinely believe in. Like you, even as adults, they fear the consequences of speaking out, e.g., losing jobs, losing friends. I hope they eventually reach a point where they've had enough and feel free to express their thoughts without fear of any repercussions.

great that anyone can find a resemblance even if the practices seem to be different on the surface! thank you for this comment
@Sindrijo15 күн бұрын
I'm not a Muslim but I have over many years gotten a certain understanding of the hijab. In the faith, on the surface, it is supposed to be a "surrender to god" type of thing. In my view then, if the wearing of it is coerced or made mandatory, it loses all meaning, it must always be a personal choice to do it. So the 'meaning' of hijab in say for example Iran is devoid, all it really does represent is oppression, not a surrender to god. Now to the deeper cultural substance of it, the 'utility' of it just seems very backwards to me, like you described it seems to have originally be a 'practical solution' for the realities back then and does not imbue women with the 'responsibility' of covering up to 'protect the men from sin'. So in this way the hijab robs both genders of agency and liberates only one of them from responsibility. This is incompatible with the modern aspiration of a basic equal respect for all and a basic expectation of self-responsibility.
@Sindrijo15 күн бұрын
To further expand on the utility, compare the hijab to a raincoat. You'd want a raincoat when it rains, there is nothing you can do to prevent it from raining. But we should not be defeated and think we can't do anything about what the hijab is supposed to prevent, all it requires a change in culture. Difficult maybe, but not impossible to change like nature itself.
@SueRibelle15 күн бұрын
oh, man, don't even get into this HUGE part of it all... I tried to share my own story but if we got into how out of balance in approach to genders and their responsibilities towards each other are, we would start a discussion that will have no end in sight! all in all, these systems seem to all have originated from a spiritual belief but become distorted and irrational by the tweaks that were made through peoples egos. as I pointed out towards the end, "The divine wasn't the one that had a problem with us, but it was the ego driven indoctrines forced upon by the religions people chose to become a member of" currently I believe in nothing but that the Higher Power/Force/The Divine/God is pure love and nothing else. he didn't care about any of these. it was all made up by his ego filled creatures called "humans"

it not mentioned in quran , what mentioned is being modest and dress modest , many different cultures translate that to wearing head scarf but lot different cultures of that time wore head scarf even non muslim women so it doesn't make sense that it became mandatory to wear head scarf , you can be modest and not show your body with out head scarf

Salam Rue, the Hijaab is not a sign of a lack of intelligence. The hijaab is an honour that Allah has granted women and a barrier against evil (physical, emotional and spiritual). Allah has no interest in overburdening us. Men have a hijaab as well with their eyes and the way that they must dress. Muslim women are not commodities, they are completely free and away from the scruitiny of the male gaze. This is freedom from being viewed as an object.

no Allah didn't command anyone to wear Hijab in this case, it was people who elaborated on what he ordered and shaped it to be what it is today. before accepting tradition as religion, you should question more and learn more about such huge responsibilities. don't accept everything because people who claim to believe what you believe tells you to.
@tomatofeind201915 күн бұрын
By it's very nature the hijab does represent the male gaze. If Muslim women were free from it they wouldn't need to wear it. This only tells you that Muslim men view women as less than and will be looked at as objects unless they put some cloth on their head. It is a sign of a rotten culture if you need this to be safe.

"help her gain freedom" is an ugly way to put it. she is free to wear it, and she does. the whole point of the story was to let everyone practice/do what they actually want to. why would I force my choices onto someone who is already happy the way she is? your question supports tyranny, the thing I explain shouldn't be done, no matter what the individuals believe in or want to practice.

I can’t say I am surprised by your story when you said you were living your mother’s beliefs and you didn’t share them during all these years; it must have been difficult… But to get back on the Quran, Muslims believe it was never corrupted, it is perfectly preserved. As for the interpretation and practice, there are disagreements between sects but the we should stick to the Quran and the Sunnah. I think you should research about the preservation of the Quran and the prophetic tradition. May Allah facilitate your hardships

Hm, the age you were hidjabed is the phase in which the imprint of any habit is likely to last. Later it becomes not so natural. It becomes what ot is, artificial, nonsensical, redundant.

You look much more attractive with Hijab 🤔 But not matter do what ever ! Even going all off it is not cost me a cent then welcome 😁

the issue is not "looking attractive" and I don't care how I look to you or any other who thinks I look "better" with hijab. have you actually grasped what the whole point is?
