A short video showing how my Cabinet looks, now that I've built it into a tv and hi-fi Console.
This is just one of 4 Test videos that I filmed on my phone, but I'm hoping in the future to film it on my higher quality Lumix stills camera once I get familiar with the Windows Movie Maker program now on my laptop.
This original Cabinet was one I found in a Charity shop. But I decided to gut it and remove all the cupboard doors and then proceeded to turn it into a 1950's style tv and hi-fi Console.
So it now has a 20" Logik tv, a TEAC hi-fi and Record Vinyl player along with a CD player and Radio.
Connected under the Cabinet is a dvd Hard-Disc player as well as an old Sky tv Receiver allowing me to watch live tv.
And underneath the tv inside the Cabinet is a Sony blu-ray player that also connects up to online services like KZbin.
Music and film clip credits below. No copyright infringements intended as all the sounds and clips were merely added in to show this working Cabinet Console.

This is very good 👍 it reminded me of our massive first colour tv in a huge cabinet with a radio gram by the side. Had you of fitted an old style of crt then it would disturb the eye but an excellent choice in keeping with the straight lines of the cabinet. Thanks for posting this fine example of hobby craftsmanship.

Thanks, Glad you like it. It was quite a bit of work putting it together. I suppose the more modern tv screen added a bit of modernity alongside a vintage look. A shame that I used a poor phone camera back then. Hopefully will do an update soon with my now better camera.

This is great work!! on first glance I wouldn't have guessed it wasn't original. Clearly your very good as often when I have seen others try this the end result looks a bit ragged around the edges. If you were ever to attempt to do this again it would be nice to see a CRT set installed, a record changer deck and doors to hide everything when not in use. Once again great work!!

Thanks Edward, It was fun putting it all together over 2 months, but overall 6 months gathering up all the items needed as well as removing the interior shelves and doors. It's funny that you mentioned doors to hide everything. I actually set out so as not to hide everything. The drawback of our English radiograms for me was the fact that they seemed to hide everything, looking very much like sideboard furniture and not the very thing that they really were....record players, radios and vinyl storage spaces. When people come and see what I've made, they liked the idea that straight away they could see a tv, record storage space and a hi-fi unit. Oh I could put a door screen over the tv and hi-fi, but I quite enjoy them being visible. The tv has quite a good sound as it is connected to the auxillary output plug at the back of the TEAC hi-fi unit. So no old radio valves here ..thankfully. I hope in the future that I might make another one but at the moment I'm a bit short of space. So I'll be checking out your page for more information on these wonderful units and one's that you've managed to get hold of. Thanks again .Dee.

Gee, Thanks Robert. Glad you like it. It was a long work project. I've got lots of photos of the console, some taken as it was being built. I really should create a Tumblr page so everyone can see the before and after pictures. I sometimes wonder if it is a unique piece of work as many console buyers are doing the opposite by stripping out the old technology and turning them into cat homes and storage spaces. I see that you have a lot of hi-fi equipment yourself including an old console. In 1950's and 60's Britain they were called Radiograms. On my one I mainly play lots of nostalgia, Swing and Jazz. They just seem to go together. And so now I'm back into collecting vinyl. But you have good tastes in music. I also love a lot of those soulfull 70's sounds. Thanks again..... Dee.

Yeah mines is a Magnavox astro sound. The factory amp only works with (ch. 2 & C). Micromatic turntable is still operational. I mainly use it with my external multi channel amp. The horns and woofers are only great when used as rear speakers. When used as main speakers the desired bass I’m custom too today would kill it. Even the factory model will distort in noise if exceeding bass and treble combination. If used as front their good for high and mod range frequencies for orchestra sound. Ive considered many times but never thought people would be inspired of modernizing and restoring vintage furniture, electronics and appliances.

I have the stereo, end tables, ill have to replace current coffee table. Lamps. I don’t have the matching tv console. Id hope to restore chassis and give coordinating colors. Then proceed to replace old tube screen with had monitor. Maybe house some automation equipment in and hd/cat6.

@@ROBERTJ986 Robert, it'll be interesting if you can do more with your console. Like you I see that many use them as support stands for their big tv's. But I love the idea of putting a tv in my one. And by connecting a lead at the back of the tv to the TEAC hi-fi AUX socket then I get a big sound to the hi-fi speakers at each end of the console. Tv looks great when playing some of those old classic movies But you sure love your hi-fi and your speakers. It must sound great. Dee.

@deejohn1659
@deejohn1659 3 жыл бұрын
Bones...That's a Logik 20" Flat screen (Frame size & screen 18" by 10" ). A much better tv than the first one I fitted in. You can see a few pictures of the cabinet just before I put the tv in, on my tumblr page. But I did build a small outer wooden frame (upholstered in fawn suede) around the tv, which then allowed me to attach it into the cabinet. And of course the tv sound is all connected up to the TEAC hi-fi through the AUX. The tv works great so I'm really pleased with it, although I mostly watch tv on my other bigger set.
