Chunky had a decent career for an outsider when you consider how many others, including star-kids, remained failures or also-rans. But if one is to analyze why he did not go higher as leading man, the reason is he was good but not exceptional in the prevailing genre then - masala multistarrers. Govinda was already doing that and doing it better. Once that genre was overtaken by the rise of the romantic heroes (Aamir, Salman, Shah Rukh), there was no space for 2 guys doing the same sort of masala cinema. Those who wanted to make fresh-looking romances went to newcomers and the few masala films went to Govinda, and there was not really a third genre or path for Chunky to take (the profusion of genres that we see today was unknown then). But fate takes strange turns, and Chunky, thanks to a quirky second innings, is arguably doing better than Govinda today.

Chunky was a handsome hero. He had initial success with multistarrers action movies from 88 to 93 but after that romantic movies were predominant so he couldn't got success in that in which new actors like salman aamir akshay ajay and later shahrukh took over.
