It is really inspiring history! I am 31 years old, I have kids and I have degree, but not in programming. I am a switcher. I had worked 6 years at bank. And I have been working as programmer for 1 year. It was difficult for me to change work, but it is the best decision in my life.

Great video, Katia! May I ask, what coding camp did you attend, or even, the coding camps you considered in the process? I'm currently starting over at 23 years old by exploring a career in coding myself and am putting myself to the same sort of 2 year deadline of success that you achieved. 😊

Hi Katia, thank you for sharing your story - very inspiring! I also came from a non-tech background, specifically a health/exercise science undergrad because of my passion for MMA and BJJ, and now currently working as a cybersecurity consultant at a firm. Even though I've been working here for ~1.5 years, I still get a moments of imposter syndrome kicking in... do you have any tips for dealing with or overcoming imposter syndrome as a non-computer science / engineering background? (perhaps a potential topic for another video!)

2:28. Who the fuck says that anymore!?? Women can be whatever they want so to men. The only angle I can get on it is statistically women haven't gone into engineering hence very few people expect it. Furthermore psychological research has placed the premise why women don't and more often than not it's not because someone said you can't. If you stop someone said they didn't think it's for you then it probably isn't, contining from that point isn't madness. If I here another story about women being "shunned" or rejected from a male dominated disapline I might go mad. Part of me feels it's a lie because when I was in school I started an engineering class with a group of ~20 students which dropped down to 3. The class did have one female and left with a large number of boys in the class. When I passed her in the corridor after learning she left and I queried why she left, she said it was one of the teachers (we had two for the class) who said she couldn't do it. Just to clarify all the boys that left said they left because of the strong academic (physics and maths) element to the class, the three of us remained were doing maths and physics along this engineering course. Personally from this story I get the feeling she wasn't willing to put in the effort.... And in all honesty the three of us who remained for the course dead easy all getting distinctions (A+). So I imagine doing it without the additional maths + physics would be moderately difficult. If someone could actually catch these dudes on camera shunning away women from science I'll believe. About 99% of men I meet wouldn't say no for a women trying and successeding in their profession, and it's not because they want to get in the pants or something perverted. The only explanation I can think of miscommunication. I know in school teachers will strongly discourage something, if they see evidence to the latter. For example if you did poorly in your physics and maths GCSE's and decide to do physics A Level with completely unrelated A levels especially not caring for maths I wouldn't blame the teacher suggesting you not do it, but they should always explain how you could make prospects better e.g. take maths with physics. And now don't your dare say that teachers give one piece of advice to girls and a different to boys. The only people in my opinion who are allowed to provide alternating reasons to different people are doctors as fat peoples bodies work different to thin. Women to men white to black. Doctors aren't discrimitory but when you do look more closely at humans they can be different, as we all do have unique differences in DNA
