The transformative work, skill and dedication of volunteers who restore these locomotives mostly in challenging external environments is nothing short of staggering. Hats off with huge thanks and respect to you all.

We had a family holiday to Barry in early '83, and my dad took me to see these. It was an amazing experience for a 9 yo.

Thank god for the efforts of such men and women, and the fact that Acetylene costs so much........

Im a lifelong engineer. I have been a volunteer at SVR Swindon & Cricklade (where I bought a share in a loco) and Bluebell line. its a labour of love, when I was a child I saw them all appearing at Barry - brok my heart as they were ordered to 'cut them up as fast as possible' BR KNEW that people wanted to save them for future genrations. It also made Dai Woodham a millionaire (which he deserved) I still believe that great man should have been KNIGHTED for all those locos hes saved rather than gas axe them for a hadful of silver.........STEAM is in my blood! Also always wanted a traction engine! GREAT WORK guys I say Black 5 many times at SVR.
