Engineering may seem like hard science; however, to make beautiful structures, Structural engineering is an actual art form. Unfortunately, it is an art form that is often overlooked even by most engineers. When we think about art and building, we think about architects; however, to make these buildings structurally stable, they need someone who as mastered the engineering art form.
I go through some of the basics of structural engineering so that you can master this art form.

Another great video! Structural engineering is different to other types like software and chemical- we can actually see the forces in real time (sometimes). Always great to visualize how something would work before even putting a number to it. My old mentor once told me, 90% of structural engineering is in the details not the numbers sometimes.

Hey Ed, thanks for watching and the support. Most of the time good detailing is half the battle, it also make the construction easier which makes for better construction.

Nice video - had to trawl through some really low-quality stuff on the basics of structural engineering before finding this! Glad to have found another informative, high-quality channel to add to the list

Nicely 101 on basic material properties. You mentioned a key important statement and that is the loading characteristics which comes with practice and knowing the functionality of the intended structure. Malik

Hi Malik Thanks for the ongoing support. Yea most of the time it is just about getting back to basics this is where all the amazing designs come from

That was very informative video. Especially about the load divergence and permissible cracking in buildings. How can I see those test clips you have provided in the video?

Sir I am a student of Masters in Civil Engineering at University of Wollongong. Please recommend me any course to get knowledge about different structural engineering programs used in Australia. I have strong grip on ETABS and Revit but I want a course or a guide who can teach me on Australian Codes. I am already doing freelancing on US codes but want to learn about Aus Codes and method to design and detail plus software which are running in the industry. Because, right now it is very difficult to find an internship

hi I'm from Peru. In August I will go to Australia, I am interested in structural engineering, in my country I am a civil engineer. I have a question, what courses helped you become a structural engineer? and do you know if there is any way to study it online? Thanks in advance

Hello, I got my Civil Engineering degree at Monash University. I know most of the universities only offer on-campus courses for engineering unless you don't care much about the credencials you would be getting.

@@BrendanHasty I want to learn structural engineering. I'm 24 years old. I currently work in Peru. but not interesting structures like first world countries. That's why I want to go to that country at the end of this year. Now I am studying the language. and I would like to know what I have to learn to get a job in that direction.

I am doing a masters in mega-structure engineering, do you think if I apply to Australia I have a chance to get sponsorship ?
@BrendanHasty
@BrendanHasty 5 ай бұрын
Hi Hamza there is typically a need to have more engineers, you will need to check the government website to see what is one the list but I think typically it will. You will likely need to find a bigger company to provide the sponsorship.
