If you really want to consider the environment and consumption, you should look at control and automation that is done by air and/or hydraulics. It is cleaner, simpler, more effective and more reliable than manufacturing semiconductors, batteries, rare metals, electromagnetic pollution and danger.

This might be useful on Mars, but certainly not on Earth as we are blessed with an abundance of fossil fuels which replenish the depleted carbon of the biosphere.

Fossil fuels is limited, they also create empty pocket under ground when you extract them, this empty space can collapse since the fossil fuel isn't there to stabilize the ground anymore. It can create catastrophe.
