Beautiful story! Sometimes people from Europe joke about Americans saying they are Irish but quite a lot of them are

I have Irish relatives on both sides of my family but my paternal Irish ancestry had intrigued me more than my maternal side as they had amazing lives and stories that I never knew about until recently. My great grandmother Kathleen Duffy was born in 1920 in Rathmines which is a small village in Dublin, Ireland. She immigrated to London at age 18 and had my grandfather in London where she resided until her death which was in 1971 caused by stomach cancer. Her father John Duffy, my great-great grandfather was born in the same area. He immigrated to New York with his father and brother in 1928 and became an American citizen. He worked on the construction of the Empire State Building with his brother for 3 years until his circumstances changed and he had to leave for unknown reasons. He decided to immigrate to London to live out the rest of his life and had 2 of his children there. 4 of his other children was born in Dublin including my great grandmother. I can’t imagine how hard it must’ve been for them but they worked hard to make a life for themselves in a foreign country. I’m proud to call them my family ❤❤

M great-great grandfather Paddy Hunt came over from Ireland at about age 10 in the 1830s. He and his teenage brother stowed away on a ship. They got separated sneaking off the ship and never saw each other again. So Paddy was alone as a boy in a strange country. We don’t know anything about his life until he married my great-grandmother in about 1858 in North Dakota. He lived to be in his 90s.

I have a 3rd great-granduncle named Patrick Hunt, but he was born in 1864 in Tobercurry, Silgo. His family moved to Leeds, Yorkshire not long after he was born.

I discovered my Galway ancestors in the 90’s by scraping frozen moss off flat stones in the ground behind the Bennington Museum in Vermont ❤️‍🩹 it was the first Catholic Church there originally & my ancestors built it but they were literally swept under the rug as our family became more middle class as well as Protestant…. I traced them back to Carrabane & visited Ireland to retrace their footsteps ♥️ it was a wonderful homecoming & very healing for me❣️

I wanna know MY Irish ancestry for the Durkin couple that came over at the turn of the century and went through Ellis Island to migrate into New York City- Manhattan. The man was from Louth, the woman(maiden name MacKeen) from Mayo. They bore my grandmother, 1st generation Irish American.

Can we also see if we have Irish blood in our DNA by the color of our eyes!?
