I wish he was changing....ones with NPD can become.aware but it's only temporary..they go back to their old ways eventually because they forget that they are a narcissist. They have no object constancy. They only feel negative emotions ..rage, anger, fear, jealousy..they cannot feel love or pure joy. They can go to therapy to learn how to deal with people better but they never can change and they have to stay in therapy forever or they will go right back to their old ways. You cannot re-raise an adult. Narcism is developed in toddler to adolescence. They always regret and they can even apologize but they go right back to their ego when they are given a second chance. He told me before that he would sit at the dinner table and he and his brothers were in competition to be sarcastic ..who could tell the best jokes. Their father did not allow them to show real emotions. His parents were also very old and tired by the time he came along. Being the youngest..he was neglected emotionally.
