Nah, many people always say Bisaya is not popular and will try to dissuade you from learning it. One reason is because it's not designated as the national language. However, I would say it is the mother tongue of many groups of people from Visayas to Mindanao where you may plan to live longer and therefore very helpful if you know some. I congratulate you or anyone who tries to learn it despite the percieved unpopularity. "Ang akong asawa kay gwapa kaayo." Or "Gwapa kaayo akong asawa." - My wife is very beautiful. -- Yes she is indeed. :) I found it funny that you try to persuade your wife to do something just like how my husband does -- just like a professional marketer. Yes tagalog is better than bisaya because everywhere in the Philippines you can use tagalog it's widely spoken language. If you speak bisaya I may not understand, I speak ilocano, Pangasinanse and tagalog. So try to learn simple tagalog.
