There are many new types of art that emerged in the 20th century but I think there are great similarities between two of them: comics and automobile design. This similarity comes from the relationship between emotion and action I think. This similarity and relationship can teach us many surprising things. How do you make a move with a line? In fact, we encounter examples of this almost every day. By drawing two dots and a line on a piece of paper, I can start a movement in your brain right now 🙂 Just by reversing one of the lines, I can change the direction of the movement in your brain 🙁 How we can transition from the three lines to happy or sad moods Neuroscientists explain as follows:
Emotions have the power of activate and execute in the brain. Our emotions influence our decisions, our thought processes, our memories and the present moment, our past and present experiences. Controlling happiness depends on our ability to understand, deal with, and effectively use our emotional energy. The relationship between emotion and movement is much clearer in the English versions of these words: It is no coincidence that the difference between the words Emotion and Motion is only one letter. The Latin origin of the word "emotion" - "emotere" means energy in motion.Let me show you energy in action right now: Superman. Looking at this illustration, we see much more than two points and a line that I just made. These, in turn, activate our brains, but trigger more complex emotions and ideas, such as; power, courage, freedom. Comic book designers use some techniques to activate us with such emotions: symbols, perspective, lighting, colors, shapes, and sounds.
The interesting thing is that the same techniques are used by automobile designers. For example, Kai Langer, one of the world's most important designers, says: “When you want to create emotion in comics, you work with contrasts of light and dark, sunlight and shadow; this creates a feeling of tension. The same applies to cars; By adding shadow to the volume, you can use mystery to engage the audience.”
