My old man , brother and team had a German stonemasonry company ( steinbau ) and im not sure if you saw them up close but we built those stone cottages near the rangers house on steep point back in 1998 , we camped like military on beach and it took three months , the Perth high rise company Glough family built them for their personal holidays there and government allowed this on heritage listed land because construction used natural stone etc...im sure there was a little corruption involved tho, i mean ...that land !!! We werent even allowed to go fishing off their beach! Crazy planet when hoomans involved.

We did see them, incredible buildings! What an amazing place to camp for a few months, can only imagine how challenging it must have been so remote though! Crazy to think that the buildings are for private use only given the location, lucky for some eh.

I camped right at that exact spot Shelter Bay as a kid 33 years ago. Learnt to drive there, ate oysters from the rocks and did lots of snorkeling. The road in was a bit different back then too and I'd say a lot more corrugated

That would have been a great experience! Can't imagine the road was any better then, worth every bone jarring corrugation to get there!
