I'm in Zone 9, purchased 3 rooted figs from AFC and they are doing phenomenal. We've had triple digit days here so i did have to add an additional watering during the evenings and have used sun shade for all my figs trees ( i'm new to this only 11 different trees so far) but other than that all is well. Great info, thanks!!

When did the cuttings be made available to buy? Looks like almost all are sold out 😢

I did the sand shoebox method for my cuttings, all the cuttings have green growth, shoots almost touching the lid of the box, but no roots showing, any recommendations?

How long do you keep it in a pot before you put it in ground? Is there going to be a part 3?

This is not a one-size-fits-all approach. In colder zones, I recommend up-potting fig cuttings until they reach a 3-5 gallon size before planting them outside. In warmer zones, the timing of up-potting is less critical.

I use 2 plastic cups on top of each other to make a dome .then when it starts to leaf out I take dome off for longer and longer periods to acclimate.

I put my cuttings in cups and then they all go into a big storage tub. The tub acts like a communal second cup. Same as you've described, I remove the lid for longer periods each time until they root and no longer need the high humidity. I use a type of sand propagation where I put them in cups individually as opposed to laying them sideways in Tupperware.

@@Free_Falastin2024 I would do it that way if I was doing a lot but I just do a few at a time

Hi Chad. I have a question about figs planted in the ground. Do they eventually produce fruit after having died back to the ground and regrowing? Mine survived a winter in the ground but have not produced at all. They're Chicago Hardy and about 1.5 years out from when I rooted them. I planted 3 and none of them produced. Is there a situation where the first 3 seasons can be described as "sleeping, creeping, leaping?" Thanks for any insight you can offer.

It’s pretty uncommon for them not to fruit for two years straight. It could be that Chicago hardy just isn’t a great producer in your area

What if humidity is a story made up by people who move to the desert? I might get 10 humid days a year if I'm lucky.

Yeah figs come from areas that are not humid.

The key factors for successfully rooting fig cuttings are maintaining high humidity and providing adequate warmth. It’s crucial to create an environment that promotes root development, rather than simply focusing on the conditions in which the plant will thrive once fully established.

Although fig plants can thrive in drier regions, this does not eliminate the need for proper conditions when rooting cuttings. Once cuttings are separated from the parent plant's water supply, they tend to dry out and wither without the right environment.
