It is interesting how she reacts to her impressive progress. As if with caustion, as time continues, she slowly opens up and expresses the excitment she feels. I am thankful for my hearing.

Wow. First time I ever saw someone do that well so quickly. I can tell you love what you do and why you do it.

I have a coworker who is going to have a cochlear implant surgery in just a couple of weeks. I can’t wait to share this with her. Thanks for sharing. ❤

I'm a resident of plastic surgery and I don't know how I ended up here watching videos of surgeries. Anyways, great job Dr. Lee. Keep up that smile of yours always, it's a healing tool itself 😊

How common is it to hear this well so quickly? My 85 yo father is getting implanted next month and I’m just worried it won’t work.

Hi There! Hearing outcomes after cochlear implants are dependent on a lot of factors! Severity of deafness, cognitive status, how long someone has been deaf. I would say lots of patients do not get as good as results as this patient did, but what's more important is how patient's do over time. The more practice and working with the audiologist, the better the hearing outcomes. Don't be discouraged at the first visit because cochlear implants are a journey and the first activation day is just that, the first day. It takes months and years to practice. Wish you and your father the best of luck!

My husband got his done at 50. What he said worked the best was listening to A book being read and following along. That way he heard it and saw it at the same time. It trained his brain to hear. But he said that when it was turned on he heard everything like a computer or R2D2. He could not make out words the first day like this lady. But about the third day he nearly cried when he could understand words.
