That came together beautifully. When I was young we took a tour of the state capitol building and at the time they still had about a 50% smaller screw press that used to be used for embossing the state seal, and I was terrified of that thing. You can get so much power out of just a sturdy screw and a wheel. For the replacement, the company contracted out was using a hydraulic press to emboss the seal on the covers, and allegedly the nearby university could tell when it was running on its seismometers.
@ThatWorks9 ай бұрын
yes sir! Hydraulic def took over, but nothing beats the control of a good screw press.

I grew up in Connecticut, and while most people think of expansive estates and well-off white people that seem to be cloned from a very shallow gene pool when they think of the state, artifacts like this are unambiguous reminders of my home state's deep blue collar history. You ruined the screw with heating it and allowing it to normalize back to a softer state. It will deform upon full torque on the down press. That's a shame you didn't know what you were doing. Once the screw is jacked, everything in there took the torque and is not worth to squirts of cold piss. Fixing the screw cold would have been the trick as you had a power hammer right there and could have done it without heat, filing and grinding. None of which did you any favors. Now your selling it for a reason.. Good luck with using it for it's intention. Took a great tool and turned it into a painted pile of scrap.
@ThatWorks15 сағат бұрын
The screw was actually dead soft before we touched it with heat. That's why we could file on it prior. It runs through a soft metal/bronze collar making it still much tougher then what it contacts. Soooo you are quite wrong.
