From Foster Care to Family: The Dodwell Adoption Story

Not 1, not 2, but 3 biological sisters have been welcomed into a family by Jes and Jordan.
We are so pleased to share this story of hope for three little girls who have been given the gift of love, protection, permanence, and each other!

My story is very similar. Back in 2017, I met a woman online. We were platonic friends. That suited both of us. On Christmas Eve, she told me Santa was not going to visit their home because she had no money. Long story short, I ordered two identical Android tablets online, one for each son, then shipped the tablets to them. The two boys asked me to be their Daddy because they never knew their Daddy. All I could say, was “Yes!” I have been their Daddy ever since. Best decision I ever made. They live in the Philippines and I live in the USA. We plan on finally meeting in person within a year and make the adoption official. My local family consists of my Mom, sister and brother. Not a single one of them are happy about me being a Dad. None of them have a kind word to say about it. My Mom thinks anything involving the Internet, is “unnatural”. My Mom and brother seem to be racist. Yesterday was Father’s Day. None of them wished me a Happy Father’s Day. I feel sad for them because it is their loss. None of my siblings have children. My sons turned 12 and 16 this past May. I am very proud of them and have learned a lot from them. One thing I learned, I will never be as good a cook as either of them. Lol.

I’m glad they kept those sisters together and not have them split up in the system! I’ve heard of other stories where adopted kids grow up and they don’t know about other siblings out there until they take DNA tests!

Your love for these children is overflowing. I would suggest that you and your husband work diligently to keep them immersed in the culture, history, and rituals of people of color. They must be able to see the lives and successes of themselves in people who look like them. Please know that I am so very happy that you have chosen them to be a wonderful part of your family. Love, is shown in the simple things in life. I promise you that you learning how to care for their hair will mean the world to them, and also how people of color will appreciate you and your husband for all that you do for your children. Crazy how a woman would continue to allow herself to get pregnant knowing they can't adequately take care of them, forcing them to succumb to foster care. How selfish and negligent can you be? If you're gonna adopt/foster African American children PLEASE learn about their hair and how to do it . These babies hair look PITIFUL and dry . Sticking a bow on it does no good .

Why don't you reach out and offer to teach this family how to do the girls hair vice criticizing this wonderful family? These babies are in a loving and nurturing home vice being separated and possibly still in foster care! If you have nothing nice to say, then it's best not to say anything. It is better to be part of the solution and not the problem. If you care to reach out to this lovely family, contact the law firm and leave a message. I am sure they would not mind passing your message along if you were to act appropriately.
