At one time, he was a 5 star recruit, a freshman all American and a future top 10 pick, but as quickly as Eli Ricks rose to fame, he seemingly fell. He left LSU for Bama and his draft stock fell to the point where he was not even selected in the 2023 NFL Draft. Today, I want to talk about his rise, who he is, and why his stock fell, enjoy!

Here is how it is. If things are going good and you are expected to be picked high, do not enter the portal. If you are burried on the depth chart and its looking very grim that you will ever play at that school, that is when you should consider leaving. Entering when everything is going well for you to create some super team is more risk than its worth.

Correction: There was no Danger of getting exposed vs 'better comp' at IMG over Mater Dei. Ricks' Mater Dei team beat IMG before Ricks transfered there. (Incidentally, you actually have footage of that game in your video @2:45.) Among other nationally ranked teams, Mater Dei also beat that loaded St. Francis team with current Michigan Star running back Blake Corum, which had a host of other talented D1, future SEC 5 star commits on their roster. Mater Dei played top teams nationally and won. Their schedule was tougher than IMGs. Their toughest competition was and still is in their own league vs St John Bosco and other Trinity League teams.

Eli Ricks didnt have a big enough body of work to be drafted. He only had that 1 great game against Mississippi State this past season. I actually believe he's going to make the final Birds roster on the last cut in Philly. After watching the preseason games, he's shown a lot of the talent he was recruited for in college. Having former teammate Josh Jobe also an undrafted rookie FA out of Alabama last year, who's done some really good things for the Eagles making the final cut last summer. Along with Slay and Bradberry and DB coach D.K. McDonald there, could be a steal for five years on a rookie deal.

It's cause the Eagles had legitimate proof that the Superbowl had been manipulated by the NFL through Gannon. So, they made sure the Eagles were compensated heavily. If you look at all of the Eagles picks, they are all top 200 picks that fell. In the case of Jalen Carter, potentially the #1 pick in the draft falling to #9 and Nolan Smith, a top 10 pick falling to #30. The entire Eagles draft makes no sense. Ringo, at one time the #1 corner in the draft, falling to the 4th round? Moro Ojomo a 3rd or 4th round guy going in the 7th round.

@mikedbigame3398 typical casual thinking 40 time is the only thing that matters. 4.6 is not slow, it's fast enough. He is a physical corner who is capable of jamming receivers and he has short area quickness and long arms. He doesn't need 4.3 speed to be a press corner. The only time 40 speed would be an issue is tackling people from behind or straight up losing track of a fast receiver on a route and having to recover. But just watch his tape against Devonta Smith at LSU and you'll see he puts clamps on elite wide receivers. This dude has been starting against elite level competition from high-school to the pros. He went to a top school in junior high, high-school, two of the top 5 colleges in America. He has all the necessary tools and instincts to make 4.6 work, if that even is his real 40.

I think he’s a project. Long, good size but not very athletic but has good movement for the size, that said because of that; I believe his best fit is hybrid S/nickel corner after he adds a few lbs of muscle. Think Poyer or Jalen Mills. If he stays outside he’ll get torched; think Rasul Douglas. As for why he fell; circumstances. Injuries, talent - overhyped out of HS, immature label & honestly many other teams were drafting for needs. Only the Eagles & Chiefs were not/ traded around so the bpa would match the position. Probably won’t make the final roster but I think he sticks around long enough to either be a 5+ year vet journeyman or converts to S like I said.

Every time i hear about a player that has all the talent but falls in the draft or doesn't get dtafted at all. I think of 2-3 examples. (1) Lawrence Philips a RB out of Neb. picked in the top 10 by the Rams. He had all the talent in the world, but unfortunately he was dumber than a box of rocks. He couldn't even spell his name correctly on S.A.T.'s or some other paperwork. They thought they could coach him up. But it didn't happen. (2)QB Damarcus Russell same as Philips above. Taken with the 1st overall pick by the Raiders. Not sure if he didn't have the brains or not. But he surely only cared about the big bag he received from his rookie contract. He had no heart of playing. He was one of the main reasons the NFL put a money limited on signing rookie draft picks. Sam Bradford was the last college rookie to sign a ridiculous amount of money without providing himself in playing a single NFL game. And the (3) example is QB Ryan Leaf drafted in top 5 by the Chargers. He had all the tools of a prototype QB at the time he was drafted. But he was a fire cracker that believed he was a QB god. And couldn't handle media criticism. So when a player like Ricks drops out of the draft. I have to believe there is a reason. But i have hope.

Cornerback (especially if a team plays a lot of man to man) is the position in the NFL *where speed is the most important* Outside of Richard Sherman (who didn’t shadow the other team’s best WR and the Seahawks played a lot of zone) most of the HOF level CBs over the past 40 years were 4.2x-4.3x. *Darrell Green* 4.21 *Deion Sanders* 4.27 *Rod Woodson* 4.33 *Charles Woodson* 4.38 *Champ Bailey* 4.28 *Darrelle Revis* 4.38 *Patrick Peterson* 4.34 Ricks ran 4.6 Look up *RAS score* as it is a really good single score objective measure of athleticism. Ricks didn’t score well. With all that said, I am wishing him the best for his NFL career.
