Hey guys, cool video. I’m a new technician and just curious about POTA. What bands are usually used for this?
@punkrockhamradio14 күн бұрын
@@BigRedDuval Thank you so much for watching. Congratulations on getting your Technician class ticket! POTA can take place on any amateur band but most of the action is on 20m during the day and 40m at night. As a tech you have HF voice privileges on 10m which is a great POTA band when conditions are good!

@@punkrockhamradio Thanks! Contesting seems like a fun way to get into the hobby. I only vhf/uhf handhelds rn. I’m not huge on the small talk that takes place on local repeaters, local ARES is pretty interesting being in Florida though!
@punkrockhamradio14 күн бұрын
@@BigRedDuval You’re welcome! POTA is a ton of fun and I like having a tangible goal to get after. I’m the same way, not much of a talker on repeaters. If you can get to a summit, VHF on an HT is totally doable for SOTA which is how I got started if you enjoy hiking and you only need 4 contacts to activate a SOTA summit! Hope you’re staying safe in Florida man!

Nice, would have been cool to see how you set the antenna up and what antenna you used and what tuner that is and how you know when it's what you wanted. And what battery?
@punkrockhamradio13 күн бұрын
@@mediocreman2 Thanks for your comment! Check out some of my other videos to see how I’m setting up the antenna, same thing here. The antenna is speaker wire. I used a Rig Expert Stick Pro to analyze the antenna. I did not need an antenna tuner since we cut the wire to resonance. Battery is a Bioenno 12V battery. Lots of videos on KZbin that dig deeper into the how to side of things. I appreciate you taking the time to watch my video! 🤘
