A hoover craft would do better to cross Surinamese Corantijn river but since guyana decide to illegal occupation of the south west of Suriname in 1969, they (Suriname) let canawaima ferry continue. Now venezuela is doing the same as guyana did to Suriname yet guyana have the nerve to complain? Guyanas is the name given by intruders but all 3 are different the french side in the east is under french rules the west side is former british and the middle one is former dutch guyana official named as Suriname ranked as nr. 17 in potention. Oxygen resort at the edge of the city of Paramaribo is such a clean peaceful place to relax while getting all sences together. Thank you Suriname, you are one of a kind for sure.

Nice video, didn't realize that still need a visa. By the way, the clearance of the Jules Wijdenbosch Bridge (Suriname) is 171 ft, the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge (Brooklyn to Staten Island) is 228 ft. :)
@ianbynoe65159 ай бұрын
It looks taller because of how it was built. It's a shorter bridge in length than the verrazano or the George Washington Bridges which are higher, so they had to angle it up to get the draft clearance for the ships. Most American Bridges are higher than this bridge.

It is my opinion, that a river that divides 2 countries should have been owned or shared equally between the 2 countries. But for some reason this river is owned exclusively by Suriname. But I wonder why and about the history behind it.

What people in Guyana and also Suriname tend to forget is that Suriname and Guyana( Berbice, Demerara , Pomeroon/Essequibo) used to be part of Dutch Guiana. The Dutch established Stabroek nowadays Georgetown in 1616 while the first permanent settlement in Suriname was established in 1650 by the British governor of Barbados, lord Francis Willoughby. In 1652 British Jews settled at the upper Suriname river where they joined Jews from Italy who had earlier settled at Cassipora creek. In 1664 The French conquered Cayenne on the Dutch and later moved the border towards the Marowijne river or how the French call it the Maroni. The Dutch and Jews living in Cayenne and other parts of "French Guiana" were driven out towards Suriname, where there was already a small Dutch settlement at the Commewijne river. In 1667 "Willoughby land" was conquered by the Dutch and renamed Surinam. By treaty of Breda ( the Netherlands) later that year an exchange took place between Holland and Britain. England received the Dutch Settlements in the "New Netherlands" nowadays New York and Staten Island U S.A. while the Dutch received Suriname. A lot of British plantation owners in Suriname didn't want to stay under Dutch rule so they took their belongings, slaves and livestock and left for Jamaica. This is also the reason why a lot of Jamaican Creole words are similar to words spoken in the Surinamese Creole, Sranan Tongo. In 1784 the capital of Demerara was named by the Dutch after the president commissioner of the Dutch West Indian Company, Nicolaas Geelvink de Stabroek. In 1812 the capital Stabroek was renamed by the British after King George of England "Georgetown" In 1789 the French Revolution took place in France. In 1791 Haiti started its independence war, abolished slavery while later France ( Napoleon) sold the Mississippi to the USA. In 1793 France declared war against England and the Netherlands. In 1795 a revolution broke out in the Netherlands and the Batavian Republic was declared. The French ruler Napoleon Bonaparte installed his brother Lodewijck Napoleon as ruler of the Bavarian Republic. The Dutch ruler William who had close ties with the British Kings and Royals fled to England. In 1795 England declared war against the Batavian Republic. In 1796 Demerara was occupied by British troops who remained until 1814. In 1799 Suriname was also occupied by British troops. Because of problems how far the influence of the governors reached the border between Berbice and Suriname was settled by the two Dutch governors Van Battenburg from Berbice and Frederici of Suriname. The border first was a then known creek by the name of Devil's creek. Because this gave problems the border was later moved to the Corantynriver. In 1802 after the Peace of Amiens France England returned Suriname to the Dutch. In 1804 England reconquered Suriname and kept it until 1816. The British didn't want to give back Suriname because a lot of British farmers had settled and invested in Nickerie and Colony now called Coronie.(There for almost all places situated in Nickerie and the Creole and Amer Indian people of Nickerie have English names) England kept the former Dutch colonies Demerara Pomeroon Essequibo Berbice and changed the Dutch writing form of the name Guiana into the better pronounced Guyana. The Brits and the Dutch exploited the both colonies similarly and brought in indentured workers from Portugal, China and India. The only difference is that the Dutch also brought in Javanese from Indonesia and allowed all those groups to keep their languages.

Myself and husband went to Suriname. My first time , his after 20+ years. I would add that f you do not have Caricom p, passport (mines failed to arrive before) I left UK. Suriname do not accept ££ and if you have a British passport, you are required to have a visa. A great learning experience for myself. It was a great experience , another adventure. With the statement of dishonest, from my point of view, I cannot agree because we met helpful locals considering our trip was not planned, a get up and decided to go to Suriname. Fullenjoyment.
