In its heyday, the Port Of Antwerp made more money in a week than Venice in a whole year. That's how massive trade was in Antwerp.

I am usually not a fan of contemporary style buildings as I find them rarely to have a "soul" (for lack of a better word) compared to historic buildings or just older buildings in general... But the MAS is not one of those! From the moment it opened, I fully embraced it as a part of the city! It's like it was meant to be built on at very spot and in a way had always been there. I love, love, LOVE it!!

I need to go here and the French museum of "arts and crafts", to an American this sounds like a museum of just like simple art, it's actually a museum of "the art of craftsmanship" if you go see it you'll understand, lathes from the first lathes to the highest end CNC machines on display in order showing their lineage and other things like that but in long lines so you can see where we have come.

I'm an avid history enthusiast and only recently discovered this channel! thanks for the video. Just a question though, where is all this historical information found? are there papers written by the archeologists, books, or maybe from the MAS museum itself?

Most of this historical proof is still there to visit... it is accordingly alsoo backed up with a lot of documents in archives in these cities. ;-)

The background information for the videos on this channel comes from a variety of sources, including books, research papers, and online resources. Most of the information about the history of the 'Hanseatic House' comes from a book written in Dutch called "Het Eilandje" by Kris Gielen. Information about the MAS is sourced from the museum itself. Many old photos and maps are sourced from felixarchief.antwerpen.be, the online version of the historical archives of the city of Antwerp.

Engelsen zouden Vlaamse steden met hun werkelijke naam moeten aanduiden, niet met een slechte Franse vertaling. Niet Bruuschj, niet Malien. Het doet pijn aan je oren.
