This is an excellent tutorial for comparison between the two softwares. Concise and easy to understand. It covers most of the stuff in just over half an hour. That's all I need. Thank you very much.

I'm put off by Lightroom's subscription model, and I really want something that will run on Linux, so I've never used Lightroom and don't plan to start using it any time in the near ever. That being the case, I'm not sure what compelled me to watch this video. Wow, am I glad that I did! I've been beating my head against a wall trying to figure out how to effectively use Darktable for *months* now, and I just can't seem to get any traction. I've read through the initial chapters of the Darktable user's manual, and I've watched many videos about Darktable editing on KZbin, and nothing has gotten through to me. Then along comes this video. This is the clearest most concise description of a usable Darktable workflow I've ever seen. Thank you! And, as a bonus, I now get why one would want to make additional instances of a module, and FINALLY have a basic understanding of per-module masks. This has really been a great help! Thank you so much!

Very good tutorial. I've just saved it to my Fav YT videos for future reference. You did a fantastic job explaining a usable workflow, that is what I think Darktable is lacking, a clear path to develop an image from beginning to end. I come from Lightroom (and tired of Adobe's policies), and this info is invaluable.

Thank you! I have been trying to use Darktable effectively for over a year (I ended up renting LrC etc in January) and have not understood much of what was possible with it. A few more rewatches of this video and experimentation should change things! You have gained a new subscriber!

Thanks for this very helpful video. Previously I was using ligtroom on mobile however recently I started using Darktable about 15 days ago. I am still struggling regarding how to use different modules compared to lightroom. This video cleared me lot of things. This is what exactly I was looking for.

Nice video...One thing you might want to employ when using colorbalance rgb is to use the fulcrum sliders on the mask tab... esp the gray fulcrum to set the threshold for contrast. Its quite powerful. I set it for every instance that I will use contrast... This will set the pivot point for pixels that are made brighter or darker... by introducing a bias for example you can have contrast darken say more of he midtones rather than lighten them or the reverse...in any case I find it gives a nicer correctly targeted contrast even just using the default of a selection based on the whole image ...

Thanks Edward. I do use the masking adjustments in CB RGB in some videos. I should probably use them some more though!

hi im totally new to editing and have just downloaded darktable, do you have any videos of basics of editing and what each module does and how to use?
@DarktableLandscapes22 күн бұрын
This video is a pretty good one for that as it covers a fairly standard workflow. There are a lot of modules in Darktable that are 'legacy' modules from previous versions, so it's often an exercise in knowing what to use and what you can ignore.
@mak-j2o22 күн бұрын
@DarktableLandscapes yes I just watched it and was very helpful thanks , glad you explained what each modules does rather than just using it and assuming we knew why.

Fantastic tutorial. I dumped Photoshop and Lr over a year ago. I use Darktable and GIMP with only one problem. Does anyone have a way to process focus stacked images on Linux?
@DarktableLandscapes27 күн бұрын
Thanks! By "process focus stacked images" do you mean combining the separate images together?
@sm-xd1wr27 күн бұрын
@DarktableLandscapes yes, landscape and macro focus stacked shots. That's the only process that is missing in gimp and darktable, I am unable to produce one completely sharp image from multiple images, usually between 5 and 10.

How do I remove objects from an image? I took a pic of a lake from my window but there's road signs in the way. How do I remove them without destroying the photo
@DarktableLandscapes21 күн бұрын
You would use the Retouch module. This video shows how to use it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y2izgJZup617b8ksi=yQMLwaBikbgFg2MW It's worth noting that if it's a complex removal you may be better off in a pixel editor like GIMP, Affinity Photo, or Photoshop.

@DarktableLandscapes cheers. Ps do you ever do any astro photos? I have some of the moon I took via my telescope and want to make them sharper This video was perfect as I took some waterfall photos last week and just followed your steps to improve mine lol

@DarktableLandscapes basically my image has a lamppost I want to remove but it's complicated as there is road, pavement, grass and trees all along side it.
