It is important to know that Flemish and Walloons played an important role in the foundation of New York and Delaware, not the Dutch.

Hello nice video but you forgot the peace agreement of breda to finish the 22nd war between the Netherlands and England. In breda was decided that new Amsterdam become new York

But the story continues. At the end the Dutch took New Amsterdam back from the British within short period of time and then traded it for Suriname. Nice illustrations man, almost a finished story.

This video illustrates how I was taught about how New Amsterdam became New York City in elementary school- more or less that it was a local coup because Stuyvesant was such an intolerable tyrant that the Dutch settlers wanted the English to annex them. I don't recall any mention that this change of government was a battle in a global war between the Dutch & English empires or part of a land swap for Suriname.

@sgabig she's right. Fort Amsterdam was fought over and changed hands 6 times, being renamed each time. My ancestors were there.

2:05 AFAIK the native Lenape *did* believe in collective ownership of land, though, and not his weird notion of "private ownership" Europeans introduced. Interestingly, very much as Karl Marx intended as he believed this was the original state of humanity. Perhaps those Lenape were on to something after all...

+Yesenia Feliciano ha, 2nd and 3rd. You may actually want to adjust the playback speed. You can make it playback 1/4 slower. That might help.
